Abstract:
A method of treating a timber product to enhance a grain of the product in the absence of visible light without adversely affecting the grain in visible light comprising: preparing a surface of the timber product; removing a portion of the timber product from the surface thereof to create voids within the timber product; applying a material to the surface of the timber product to capture at least a portion of the material within the voids; drying the timber product; and finishing the timber product for use.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a surface covering comprising: - a wood-based substrate, - a surface coating layer, said surface coating layer being obtained by the irradiation of a radiation-curable coating agent with UV light having a wavelength comprised from 120 nm to 230 nm, and - a filler coating layer, said filler coating layer being located between the wood- based substrate and the surface coating layer.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Water-based stains comprise or consist essentially of a polysaccharide resin and a crosslinking agent such as an isocyanate. Upon evaporation of water, the polysaccharide undergoes crosslinking with the isocyanate component, developing water resistance so that it will not redissolve upon application of a water-based or oil-based clearcoat; as a result, lifting is minimized after a drying time of, e.g., two to six hours.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a new class of substituted acridinium- and xanthenium-like fluorescent dyes having a 9-x-antracenium rings system. The new substituted fluorescent dyes may be attached to a linker, conjugated to carrier molecule such as e.g. a protein, a nucleic acid, a lipid, or a saccharide, or deposited or immobilised on solid support materials. The substituted fluorescent dyes are useful for various purposes, including use for fluorescence imaging and in sensors for monitoring or determining analytes.
Abstract:
A method for imparting brown and natural colorants to wood treated with micronized wood treatments, by injecting into the wood a salt of lignosulfonate and a salt of humic acid or derivatives thereof in a total amount that is greater that 0.02 pounds total per cubic foot of wood, the quantity of salts of lignosulfonates and salts of humic acids or derivatives thereof being sufficient to impart a brown or dark color to the treated wood.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a process for coating a wood substrate, the coating composition curable by radiation having a wavelength of 320 nm to 450 nm and the coated product so-produced.
Abstract:
A multi-coat system for staining a substrate which system comprises: (a) a first coat comprising a non-aqueous pretreatment composition; and (b) a second coat comprising an aqueous stain composition; wherein the non-aqueous pretreatment composition comprises a carbohydrate-based alkyd having pendent fatty acid residues.
Abstract:
Disclosed are dryable stain compositions, such as wiping stains, that include a binder including a mixture of an alkyd resin and a drying and/or semi-drying oil, wherein the stain composition (a) includes no more than 100 grams of volatile organic material per liter of the stain composition, and (b) is substantially free of water. Also disclosed are porous substrates at least partially coated with such stain compositions, methods for staining at least a portion of a porous substrate with such stain compositions, and porous substrates at least partially coated with a multi-layer composite coating system wherein at least one coating layer is deposited from such a stain composition.
Abstract:
Coating compositions are disclosed that include a film-forming resin, a radiation cure initiator, a colorant, and a diluent. These compositions are substantially free of radiation curable material. Also disclosed are substrates at least partially coated with such compositions, substrates at least partially coated with a multi-layer composite coating comprising at least one coating layer deposited from such compositions, and methods for improving the adhesion of a multi-layer composite coating system to a porous substrate.
