The emulsion is storage stable whilst fast breaking, even under unfavourable environmental conditions such as high humidity and low temperature. The invention relates to the use, as an additive for bituminous products, of a composition containing at least one compound of the general formula (1) G-CO-CH2-N+(R1 R2R3) X- (1) where: G- is selected from R-O-A-, R'-O-A- and R'-O-; R is an optionally hydroxylated hydrocarbon chain; R' is an optionally hydroxylated hydrocarbon chain substituted by at least one and preferably one or two -0-CO-CH2-N+(R1R2R3) X- groups; A is a divalent radical including m ethoxy and/or propoxy links; R1, R2 and R3 are identical or different and each represent a C1-C4 alkyl radical; and X is a halogen radical or the mesyl radical. Trafficked pavement substrates utilize markings to segregate traffic (e.g., divide lanes traveling in the same direction, divide sides of the road traveling in opposite directions). A dry polymer modified cement mixture may be used to provide the markings. The dry polymer modified cement mixture is prepared by mixing a dry polymer modified cement blend (ordinary Portland cement, aggregate and polymer powders) with water. The location of the lines is identified, and the dry polymer modified cement mixture is applied onto the identified areas as a thin layer. The dry polymer modified cement blend may include polymers to provide colored markings. Glass beads may be embedded into the dry polymer modified mixture before it cures to retroreflect light shined thereon. The trafficked pavement substrate may have troughs formed therein and the dry polymer modified cement markings may be formed therewithin so that the markings are flush.

The invention is a cost-effective method and formulation for cold paving applications that can be used to convert an unpaved surface, such as a gravel or dirt roadway, into a paved surface. The method includes applying an asphalt emulsion comprising asphalt, water, one or more emulsifiers, and a polymer to an existing unpaved surface to provide a layer of asphalt emulsion. An aggregate is then deposited over the emulsion layer to form a paved surface. The asphalt emulsion is formulated so that it can be used in a wide variety of conditions and with locally available aggregate. The set rate and viscosity of the asphalt emulsion can be selected so that it is able to penetrate partially into the unpaved surface to further improve the stability and rain resistance of the roadway.

The bituminous emulsion is prepared by stirring in a dispersion reactor as follows: preparing a bitumen phase by heating a bitumen of high viscosity to a temperature of 170°C -185°C; optionally adding rubber powder from tyres from 1% to 15% by weight of the total weight of the bitumen phase; stirring into the reactor both components and, optionally, adding an stabilising agent, followed by stirring and cooling to a temperature of 100°C-110°C; preparing a soapy phase by mixing a cationic asphaltic emulsifier at a temperature of 25°C-45°C, water at a temperature of 25°C-65°C and an emulsifier activating agent; and mixing into the reactor the bitumen phase with the soapy phase, and adding water until the ratio of the bitumen phase/water phase is between 60/40 and 90/10, followed by stirring to obtain the bituminous emulsion optionally modified with rubber powder. The invention also refers to a composite material wherein the bituminous emulsion is used as a hydrocarbon binder, and wherein said composite material is useful for paving of surfaces at a temperature of less than 100°C.

L'invention concerne un liant synthétique clair comprenant au moins une huile d'origine végétale, au moins une résine d'origine pétrolière et au moins un polymère, la quantité d'huile d'origine végétale dans le liant est supérieure ou égale à 10% en masse et la quantité de polymère dans le liant est inférieure ou égale à 15% en masse. Le liant synthétique clair selon l'invention, présente une bonne consistance, une viscosité réduite, un comportement à froid et des propriétés élastiques convenables. L'invention concerne aussi, un enrobé préparé à partir dudit liant synthétique clair, cet enrobé est préparé à des températures comprises entre 1000C et 160°C, de préférence entre 120°C et 140°C et présente une résistance à l'orniérage et à l'eau convenable.
