Abstract:
A sweeper including a mat for sweeping a ground surface by moving the mat over the ground surface in a direction of travel substantially transverse to a leading edge of the mat, the mat having at least one slot extending therethrough and disposed transversely relative to the direction of travel whereby in use of the mat debris can pass through the slot over a trailing edge of the slot to collect on an upper surface of the mat, wherein the sweeper includes a cover over the mat for trapping debris on said upper surface of the mat.
Abstract:
A device for collecting debris from a ground surface, comprising a flexible generally planar member with an opening therethrough such that when the device is laid on and moved forwardly over the ground surface debris on the ground surface passes upwardly through the opening onto a collection surface of the device, the device having an inclined surface extending upwardly and rearwardly from a transverse edge which forms a rear edge of the opening, wherein the device further includes at least one longitudinal retaining barrier extending at least partly across the collection surface such that at least part of the debris on the collection surface is retained from transverse movement along the collection surface by the longitudinal retaining barrier.
Abstract:
A trap apparatus (1) including a body (3) defining a trap opening supported across a stream of wind blown matter to be trapped. The trap apparatus also includes a wind-permeable receptacle (6) supported down-stream of the trap opening. The receptacle is at least partially formed of a material having an effective mesh size selected whereby the wind passes therethrough whilst the matter is retained.
Abstract:
A hand held solid pet waste vacuum is described, which allows the sanitary collection of solid pet waste from off of a variety of surfaces (for example dirt, snow, gravel or grass) into a disposable filter bag. The vacuum is powered by a rechargeable battery which can provide 50 clean-ups on a single 12 hour charge and a 30,000 rpm electric vacuum motor. Each disposable filter bag can hold one week's worth of solid pet waste (depending on pet breed and diet), and is completely sanitary, preventing pet waste from coming in contact with either the vacuum or the operator.
Abstract:
A silt barrier comprises a plurality of filter elements, each filter element, in use, having a height direction, a width direction and a length direction and being adapted to allow the passage of water therethrough in the width direction and to resist the passage of silt therethrough in the width direction. In an embodiment the filter medium comprises a single type of material which combines: (a) filtration characteristics adequate to provide an effective silt barrier and; (b) deformation/resilience characteristics adequate to allow said filter element to return substantially to its original height after being compressed in its height direction by a vehicle passing thereover.
Abstract:
A device (10) for collecting debris from a ground surface (18). A flexible generally planar member (17) has openings (16) therethrough. When the device is laid on and forwardly moved over the ground surface (18) debris on the ground surface passes upwardly through the openings, over inclined pick-up portions (42) of the device and thence onto collection surfaces (25) of the device. The device has transversely extending openings (88) spaced in the lengthwise direction on inclined surfaces (68) of the pick-up portions (42) whereby under forward movement of the device (10) in use, debris is accumulated in the recesses (88). Debris accumulated in the recesses (88) tends to be retained therein during deceleration of the device (10).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the average composition of urban waste, composed of plastics, paper, metal, glass, organic material of Municipal Solid Waste (OMMSW), ashes, batteries and humidity contents. OMMSW has been subjected to acidic prehydrolysis (2.5 % of H2SO4 on the dry matter), a prehydrolysate of 12 % of sugars and cellulignin with 12 % of ashes being obtained. Since the OMMSW contains only 30 % of dry matter, one has concluded that the economicity of the process defined as weight of solid matter by cubic meter of reactor improves with the mixture of 50 % of OMMSW and 50 % of biomass (wood, grass, agricultural residues, etc.). With this technique one has achieved 300kg of dry biomass/m3 (DB) of reactor. This requirement is not limiting, since the biomass may be supplied by planting trees in the urban perimeter or planting 1ha of grass for each 1000 inhabitants in the cities surroundings.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a vehicle for removing foreign objects (e.g. rubbish) from an area proximal to the vehicle (e.g. along a roadside). The vehicle comprises an arm that is moveable into a foreign object collecting position, a foreign object collector located at a distal end of the arm and configured for collecting foreign objects, and a conduit for conveying collected foreign objects to a storage bin.
Abstract:
A portable, modular, and dynamically sized and shaped, above-ground, industrial-liquid-containment system is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the system includes a plurality of elongated curbs, each of which has a substantially inverted-V-shaped cross-section. In variations, each curb can have a flat top surface, from which two walls extend downwardly at a predetermined angle. At the bottom of each of the curb walls, is a foot surface extending substantially parallel to the ground and to the flat top surface. The plurality of curbs are detachably coupled together to define a perimeter for a liquid-containment area. The height of the curbed boundary can be increased by installing curb-height extender members onto the first-layer of curb members. The defined containment-area floor and the plurality of curbs is continuously covered by liquid-impermeable sheeting in order to prevent leakage into the outer-ground environment.
