摘要: A near-eye display device comprises a pupil-expansion optic, a laser, a drive circuit coupled operatively to the first and second lasers, a spatial light modulator (SLM), and a computer. The SLM has a matrix of electronically controllable pixel elements and is configured to receive emission from the laser and to direct the emission in spatially modulated form to the pupil-expansion optic. Coupled operatively to the drive circuit and to the SLM, the computer is configured to parse a digital image, trigger the emission from the laser by causing the drive circuit to drive a periodic current through a gain structure of the laser, and control the matrix of pixel elements such that the spatially modulated form of the emission projects an optical image corresponding to the digital image, wherein the periodic current includes plural cycles of modulation driven through the gain structure while the optical image is projected.

摘要: A device for redirecting light in two dimensions (2D) includes a wavelength-tunable light source for providing light having a spectral component at a first wavelength. A 1D redirector redirects the light in a first plane. A thin waveguide is disposed in the first plane. The thin waveguide includes a slab waveguide portion coupled to the 1D redirector for propagating light redirected by the 1D redirector. The slab waveguide portion includes a wavelength-sensitive out-coupler out-coupling the light in a second plane at an angle dependent on the first wavelength. Thus, the light is redirected in two dimensions. A display device providing image in angular domain may be based on the device for redirecting light in two dimensions.

摘要: A device for providing a 1D line of an image is disclosed. The device includes a wavelength-tunable light source for providing image light having the angular distribution encoded in optical spectrum. The device further includes a thin slab waveguide having an out-coupler in form of a diffraction grating for out-coupling the image light at an angle dependent on wavelength. The image may be formed by scanning a collimated beam propagating in the slab waveguide when using tunable monochromatic light sources, or by forming the 1D singular distribution of brightness at a same time when using a tunable-spectrum light sources. The device may be used in a near-eye display for forming a 2D image in angular domain.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to an optical device for a Near Eye Display (NED). The optical device comprising a waveguide, a first Optical Element (OE), a switchable second OE and a third OE. The first OE receives light and couples the light into the waveguide towards the switchable second OE. The switchable second OE comprising a plurality of independently switchable optical segments arranged one after the other along the waveguide. The switchable second OE receives the light from the first OE and redirects the light, with the switchable optical segments, into the waveguide towards the third OE. Moreover, the third OE couples the light received from the switchable second OE out of the optical device. The present disclosure also provides a NED device comprising an optical device and an image generator. The image generator emits light corresponding to an image to a waveguide of the optical device.

摘要: A device for providing a 1D line of an image is disclosed. The device is based on a thin slab waveguide coupled to a beam redirecting device such as a tiltable mirror MEMS scanner, a waveguide-based phased array, or a waveguide-based optical switch switching image light between waveguides of a waveguide array coupled to a collimating element formed in the low-mode slab waveguide. The image may be formed by scanning a collimated beam propagating in the slab waveguide, or by forming the 1D singular distribution of brightness at a same time. The device may be used in a near-eye display for forming a 2D image in angular domain.

摘要: An optical device includes a light source assembly configured to generate an image light; and at least one waveguide including an in-coupling element and an out-coupling element configured to transmit, via the at least one waveguide, a plurality of light fields of the image light to an eye-box of the optical device, in a time-multiplexing manner. At least one of the in-coupling element or the out-coupling element includes at least one switchable diffractive optical grating, which includes a surface relief grating (SRG) filled with an optically anisotropic material having a first principal refractive index along a groove direction of the SRG and a second principal refractive index along an in-plane direction perpendicular to the groove direction. One of the first and second principal refractive indices substantially matches a refractive index of the SRG, and the other mismatches.

摘要: A method of fabricating a compound light-guide optical element (LOE) is provided. A bonded stack of a plurality of LOE precursors and a plurality of transparent spacer plates alternating therebetween is bonded to a first optical block having a plurality of mutually parallel obliquely angled internal surfaces. The block is joined to the stack such that first plurality of partially reflective internal surfaces of the block is non-parallel to the internal surfaces of the LOE precursor. After bonding, a second optical is thereby formed. At least one compound LOE is sliced-out of the second optical block by cutting the second block through at least two consecutive spacer plates having a LOE precursor sandwiched therebetween.
