Abstract:
An aromatic polycarbonate having high durability and excellent in color tone, transparency, and mechanical strength, especially one having high durability and stability in long-term use under high-temperature high-humidity conditions; a process for producing the polycarbonate; and a use thereof. The aromatic polycarbonate has a sodium content of 100 ppb or lower and nickel, lead, chromium, manganese, and iron contents of 70 ppb or lower each. The process for producing the aromatic polycarbonate comprises condensation-polymerizing an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic diester. The starting materials each has been regulated so that (1) the sodium content therein is 52 ppb or lower and (2) the concentrations of iron, chromium, manganese, nickel, and lead therein each is 40 ppb or lower. For the polymerization, (3) a specific catalyst is used in a specific amount based on the iron contained in the starting materials.
Abstract:
High sensitive organic dye-in-polymer (DIP) medium for write-once-read-many (WORM) optical discs with fluorescent reading. The medium consists of a fluorescent color means, capable of absorbing writing radiation produced by a laser, a compound capable of generating free radicals upon influence of heat produced by the writing radiation and a polymer capable of producing a translucent film enabling high quantum yield of the fluorescence induced in the color means. The color means can be selected from xanthene dyes of the eosine and rhodamine groups, acridine, oxazine, azine, peylene, violanthrone, cyanine, phtalocyanine, indigoide colors and porphyries. The free radicals generating compound can be chosen from the group of compounds comprising azo and diazoi compounds or peroxyde compounds. The film producing polymer can be selected from the group of compounds comprising cellulose ethers, vinyl resins or acrylic resins.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of pyridine N-oxide based azo dyes and their metal complexes in optical layers for optical data recording, preferably for optical data recording using a blue laser with a wavelength up to 450 nm or a red laser with a wavelength up to 650 nm. The invention further relates to a write only read many (WORM) type optical recording medium capable of recording and reproducing information with radiation of a blue or red laser, which employs a pyridine N-oxide based azo dye or a respective metal complex in the optical layer.
Abstract:
A fluorescent composition for use with single-layer and multilayer optical discs for CD ROM, DVD and WORM type devices with fluorescent reading is disclosed. The composition comprises a fluorescent dye, film-forming polymer, plasticizer, surfactant and light stabilizer. A method of increasing fluorescent signal level from the optical discs both for single-layer and multilayer optical memory materials is also disclosed along with the resulting optical discs.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an inscribable optic storage medium comprising a protective layer, one or more inscribable layers, optionally a reflecting layer and at least one support layer. The support layer has at least one colorant with at least 70 % transmission at the laser wavelength used for writing and/or reading, and with at least 70 % absorption at all other wavelengths of visible light which are at least 100 nm shorter than the wavelength of the laser light.
Abstract:
A optical storage medium is provided, comprising a main substrate, an information surface being associated with the main substrate, and at least one compensating layer. The compensating layer may change a phase and/or amplitude of a propagating electromagnetic wavefront according to a first optical transfer function so that the optical storage medium may be read or recorded by a detector/emitter being pre-set to read or record information at an information surface through a medium changing the phase and/or amplitude of a propagating wavefront according to a predetermined optical transfer function being different from the first optical transfer function. The compensating layer may optically reduce a spot size of a light beam incident on the information surface, and/or compensate for aberrations caused by a first distance being different from a predetermined distance. The substrate may be non-transparent and/or thinner than standard substrates. Methods of making such media are also provided.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a machine readable data carrier comprising a substrate consisting of a copolyester carbonate which contains units on the basis of hydrogenated dimer fatty acids. The inventive data carrier offers the possibility to record data when the data density is higher.
