The present invention relates to a new solvent composition useful in the process of manufacturing an optical recording medium. The invention provides a new liquid composition comprising from 0.1 to 20% by weight of a dye having a solid state absorption band maximum in the spectral region from 300 to 800 nm, from 0.5 to 99.9% by weight of a compound of formula (I), wherein R1 to R8 are H, CH3 or C2H5, with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms in R1 to R8 is 0, 1 or 2, and optionally from 0 to 99.4% by weight of one or more further components, all based on the weight of the solution. The instant solvent composition enables to manufacture an optical recording medium of a single recording layer type capable of recording and playing a large volume of information using commercially available compact disc recorders and players and of superior performance in an amazing wide range of drive speeds. A further subject-matter is an optical recording disk with improved groove filling and preferably particular groove geometry.

Curable (meth)acrylate adhesives are formulated with aliphatic urethane(meth)acrylate resins. The resins are urethane (meth)acrylate capped polyols wherein theurethane acrylate capping is derived from isophorone diisocyanate and a hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylate and the polyol is an oligomeric aliphatic diol or triol having a number averagemolecular weight of from about 1500 to about 3500. The hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate may behydroxy ethyl acrylate. The polyol may be a member selected from the group consisting ofpolyoxypropylene triols, polyTHF diols, polycaprolactone/polyTHF block copolymers, andpolycaprolactone diols. The adhesives give good adhesion to common DVD substrate materials,and display excellent corrosion resistance in dissimilar metal bonding applications.

This polycarbonate is characterized by extractability of less than 1 wt% by 2-ethoxyethyl acetate, that of less than 2 wt% by acetone, and an acetone extract containing aromatic dihydroxyl compounds and carbonic diesters in amounts of 5 to 40 ppm and 50 to 200 ppm by weight respectively based on the polycarbonate.

A polycarbonate resin which has a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10,000 to 17,000 and is characterized by iron content, total free phenol amount, release agent content, terminal hydroxyl content, H-NMR spectrum, etc. The resin is less apt to have defects attributable to burrs even when the amount of the release agent contained therein is not excessively large. It is hence suitable for use as a material for optical disk substrates.
