    Abstract: A switching apparatus (30) comprises: a plurality of parallel-connected current-conductive branches (32), each current-conductive branch (32) including at least one respective gas tube switch (34); and a switching control unit (100) configured to control the turn-on of the gas tube switches (34) in a switching order so that the flow of current in the switching apparatus (30) is controlled to switch between the current-conductive branches (32), wherein the switching order of the turn-on of the gas tube switches (34) is arranged so that only one of the current-conductive branches (32) is carrying the current during each turn-on cycle of the switching apparatus (30).
