摘要: An energy storage system converts variable renewable electricity (VRE) to continuous heat at over 1000°C. Intermittent electrical energy heats a solid medium. Heat from the solid medium is delivered continuously on demand. An array of bricks incorporating internal radiation cavities is directly heated by thermal radiation. The cavities facilitate rapid, uniform heating via reradiation. Heat delivery via flowing gas establishes a thermocline which maintains high outlet temperature throughout discharge. Gas flows through structured pathways within the array, delivering heat which may be used for processes including calcination, hydrogen electrolysis, steam generation, and thermal power generation and cogeneration. Groups of thermal storage arrays may be controlled and operated at high temperatures without thermal runaway via deep-discharge sequencing. Forecast-based control enables continuous, year-round heat supply using current and advance information of weather and VRE availability. High-voltage DC power conversion and distribution circuitry improves the efficiency of VRE power transfer into the system.

摘要: A power conversion system includes an electrical generator operable to generate an electrical power and an electrical transmission system that is operable to transmit the electrical power from the electrical generator, the electrical transmission system having a maximum physical power transmission rate. A flexible load is operable in response to the receipt of the electrical power from the electrical transmission system to convert a portion of the electrical power into a form of stored energy. The electrical transmission system is separate from any grid code regulated systems, and the electrical transmission system is configured to transmit electrical power from the electrical generator to the flexible load at a rate that is 75 percent to 100 percent of the maximum physical power transmission rate.

摘要: A hybrid power-generator system includes an engine, an electric generator, first and second rectifiers, first and second DC-DC voltage converters, a DC bus, an inverter, and one or more controllers. The system provides a unique method of joining two power sources such that the relative proportion utilized can be changed to any value seamlessly, such as to avoid daily and/or seasonal variations in utility charges. Since the AC output portion of the circuit is independent of the utility grid, power can be supplied at variable frequencies to motor loads with significant positive impacts in load efficiency. Power increases required by the load(s) that occur rapidly can utilize the electrical grid to assist for the brief transient, allowing the engine, which is maintained at a fixed and wide-open-throttle position, to continue operation and in a more gradual process to resume its blend target for power generation.

摘要: A method (1200) and apparatus (10, 50) are provided for determining characteristics of a photovoltaic (PV) power source. An inductor (20) and a capacitor (22) of a resonant circuit (12, 52) are connected (1202) in parallel with an output of the PV power source (3), thereby causing (1204) a transient oscillation of an output voltage and output current of the PV power source. Values of the output voltage and output current of the PV power source are sampled (1206) during the transient oscillation, and the sampled voltage and current values are usable to determine (1208) at least a section of a current-voltage (I-V) curve of the PV power source.

摘要: Energy conversion and distribution can include converting sound energy to electrical energy using one or more energy converters positioned within a predetermined area. Multiple devices can be classified to indicate an energy requirement of each device, and the electrical energy converted from sound energy can be allocated to one or more of the devices based on the classifying. Delivery of the electrical energy allocated to each of the one or more devices can be controlled using a switching mechanism to create a transmission channel with respect to each of the one or more devices.
