Abstract: A non-sewered toilet system and method for separation and treatment of human waste are described. The system can include a frontend system with a solids separator (100), a buffer tank separation system (200), a liquid waste treatment system (300), and a solids waste treatment system (400). The solids separator (100) can separate combined human waste including feces or urine into a separated solids portion and a separated liquid portion. The buffer tank separation system (200) can deliver a solids portion of the input stream to the solids collection tank and deliver the liquids portion to the liquids collection tank. The liquid waste treatment system (300) can receive liquid waste collected in the liquids collection tank and deliver a usable water. The solids waste treatment system (400) can receive a slurry from the solids collection tank, heat the slurry in a reactor to a temperature that is at or above the critical point of water to inactivate pathogens.

Abstract: Non-sewered toilet system and method for separation and treatment of human waste are described. The system can include a frontend system with a solids separator (100), a buffer tank separation system (200), a liquid waste treatment system (300), and a solids waste treatment system (500). The solids separator can separate combined human waste including feces or urine into a separated solids portion and a separated liquid portion. The buffer tank separation system can deliver a solids portion of the input stream to the solids collection tank and deliver the liquids portion to the liquids collection tank. The liquid waste treatment system can receive liquid waste collected in the liquids collection tank and deliver a usable water. The solids waste treatment system can receive a slurry from the solids collection tank, heat the slurry to inactivate pathogens, and form feces cakes with a filter press. A combustor can reduce the feces cakes to ash.

Abstract: The invention is directed towards calibrating fluid flow measurements. A method includes receiving fluid velocity and depth data from sensors placed in the flow channel. Once calibrated based on direct measurements from the flow channel, a depth or velocity of the fluid in the flow path is approximated based on a fluid-flow model, a set of flow path parameters, and the magnitude of the velocity or depth measured. These values can be determined for multiple flow regimes. The set of flow path parameters characterizes one or more properties of the flow path. An effective area of the flow path is calculated based on the depth of the fluid flowing in the flow path and the set of flow path parameters. A flow rate of the fluid flowing in the flow path is determined based on the magnitude of the velocity of the fluid flowing in the flow path. An indication of the flow rate of the fluid is provided to a user.

Abstract: A stormwater treatment device includes a tank defining an internal volume and having an inlet and an outlet, a rotatable screen unit mounted within the tank, the rotatable screen unit being barrel-shaped to define a through path with an inlet end and an outlet end. The rotatable screen unit includes a screen structure with a plurality of screening openings for allowing passage of at least some water from the through path outwardly through the screen structure while inhibiting passage of trash items through the screen structure such that trash items move along the through path from the inlet end to the outlet end. The rotatable screen unit includes a plurality of external drive paddles that rotate with the screen structure and that interact with water that has been screened by passing outwardly through the screen structure interacts with the external drive paddles to cause rotation of the rotatable screen unit.

Abstract: A semi-aqueous method for extracting a substance. The method involves combining a first liquid or solid substance containing an extract with a semi- aqueous solution containing a water-soluble or water-emulsifiable (WSWE) compound. Said WSWE compound selectively dissolves extract during a dense phase CO2 expansion and salting-out process, which is simultaneously co-extracted using said dense phase CO2, and desolvated to produce a CO2 salted- out solvent mixture containing extract. Said CO2 salted-out solvent mixture is treated using various secondary processes. The present invention is useful for producing extracts for use as additives in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, beverages, or foods, and for quantitative analysis.
