The method evaluates the integrity of the plasma membrane of the cells by detecting novel glyco structures found only intracellularly. The method can be applied, for example, to demonstrate exposure of therapeutic cell preparation to potentially harmful conditions. It can also be used as a quality control tool in methods in which intact cell membrane is essential and it can be applied in separation of damaged cells from non- damaged.

More particularly, the present invention relates to human IgM antibodies and derivatives thereof, which have novel binding specificity with regard to several oligosaccharide sequences and/or xenoantigenic sialic aicd residue.
