Bone graft scaffold arrangements are described that can be used in minimally invasive posterolateral spinal fusion. The bone graft scaffold apparatus comprise a housing which comprises a cavity for receiving bone growth promoting materials and a plurality of apertures. In use these allow bone and blood vessels to grow through the plurality of apertures to form the bone bridge between vertebrae. Further the bone graft scaffold apparatus comprise at least one opening in the housing for receiving a shaft of an orthopaedic device, such as rod linking pedicle screws, or the shaft of a pedicle screw, or another suitable shaft in another surgical procedure. The apparatus can be attached to structural components such as rods and screws and used to form a continuous scaffold between vertebras to assist in forming a bone bridge.

An orthopedic prosthesis, system and method has a dual bearing component that, along with first and second bone anchoring components, provides multi-axial movement separately with respect to both the first and second bone anchoring components. An ankle prosthesis, system and method may thus be fashioned utilizing these principles that includes a dual bearing component, a tibial component adapted for attachment to the tibia bone, and a talar component adapted for attachment to the talus or calceneus bone of the foot. The dual bearing component includes a superior bearing providing gliding articulation/translation between it and the tibial component, and an inferior bearing providing gliding articulation/translation between it and the talar component. A bearing component plate provides a base or foundation for the superior and inferior bearings. The superior bearing is bonded to the bearing component plate while the inferior bearing moves with respect to the bearing component plate.

A patella drill guide (10) includes a base portion (16) rotatably mounted on a bone-gripping component (12). A trial portion (20) with a contoured articulation surface (38) is above the base portion. The base portion and trial portion have aligned drill guide bores (50,52,54). The base portion and trial portion can be rotated together on the bone-gripping component to optimize the positions of the drill guide bores with respect to the patella surface, thereby optimizing the locations of the mounting pegs of the patella implant component on the patella to optimize the orientation of the patella implant component. The base and the bone-gripping component may be unitary so that the entire assembly rotates on the patella about the central longitudinal axis of the bone-gripping component.

The substantially cylindrical polar back filling channel (3) of the joint cavity shell (1) is closed by a slightly dished closure element (2) made of titanium plate. The closure element (2) has an external diameter preferably greater by 0.05 to 0.1 millimeter than the internal diameter of the channel to be closed (3), and is inserted and maintained by adjusted clamping in the channel (3) with a novel instrument (6) in accordance with the invention.

The joint component includes a body having a first articulating surface and a second medial surface opposite the first articulating surface. The mounting portion has a first surface and a second medial surface. The first surface is adapted to be fixably engaged to the second mounting portion of the humeral component. The second medial surface is adapted to be secured to the humerus. A peg which has a first end adapted to engage a cavity found in the humerus is disposed on the mounting portion's second medial surface.
