The method includes analyzing each of a plurality of pixels of the image, wherein each pixel of the plurality of pixels exhibits integer value N-bit color depth and determining a particular index value of each pixel of the image, a particular numerical value associated with a particular color component of each pixel of the image, and a particular threshold value associated with the particular color component of each pixel of the image. The particular threshold value is common between pixels of the image separated by a predetermined number of pixels. The method further includes modifying, based on the determining, each of the plurality of pixels of the image to exhibit integer value M-bit color depth, wherein integer value M is less than integer value N.

The gray-scale processing section (50) includes dither matrix storage ROMs (54 1 to 54 N ) that store N combinations of dither matrices corresponding to the N groups, respectively.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method and a device for encoding the luminance value of a pixel of a picture into a subfield code word in a display device. It can be applied to every display device using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology and subfields for displaying video picture. It can be used to compensate for any luminance problem that can be estimated. The general idea of the recursive coding is to encode one sub-field after the other in order to be able to compensate for problems occurring on one sub-field with the other sub-fields. More particularly, the bits of a subfield code word are computed recursively one after the other such that the defects (e.g. line load and/or linearity) in the light emission or luminance generated by a bit of the subfield code word can be compensated by the following bits of the subfield code word.

    摘要: An image display apparatus such as a plasma display panel or the like wherein false contours of moving images can be suppressed with sufficient gray scale maintained. The image display apparatus includes a disturbance constant adding circuit (19) that generates a plurality of disturbance constants for the gray scale corresponding to an image signal and that selects and adds one of those disturbance constants to the image signal. Thus, disturbance is applied to and superimposed on each image signal, thereby scattering locations where false contours of moving images occur so as to make those false contours visually unnoticeable.
