A coating method, a coater, and a method for manufacturing a planographic printing plate are provided in which no unintended inter-layer mixing is generated even when an upper layer applied onto a dried lower layer is dried. A first coating liquid is applied onto the surface of a support (12) with a first coater (14) to form a lower layer. The lower layer is dried with a first dryer (16) until an amount of the residual solvent reaches not more than 100 mg/m 2 . A second coating liquid is applied onto the lower layer after drying with a second coater (18) to form an upper layer. Moisture of the upper layer is dried with a second dryer (20). In the second dryer (20), within drying zones (20A) to (20C), moisture is removed in the upper layer until moisture content of the upper layer reaches not more than 10% of that at the time of application within the range in which a conditional expression (1) is satisfied: (1) temperature (Tw) of the support (12) ≤ average softening temperature (T0) of the lower layer + 10 °C. Subsequently, the temperature (Tw) of the support (12) is raised within a drying zone (20D) to remove the remaining moisture of the upper layer.

For this, the method for drying a coating film according to the present invention, includes: drying a coating film to a drying point, the coating film which is formed by applying a coating liquid containing a high boiling point solvent onto a support to be conveyed; and subsequently, drying the high boiling point solvent while spraying vapor of a solvent having a boiling point lower than that of the high boiling point solvent to the coating film with a vapor spray nozzle within a drying box, wherein the support is heated so as to have a predetermined temperature T within the drying box, and conveyed.

A weight ratio PES wt%:FEP wt% of PES and PEP which form the oil-repellent coating 14 is preferably 40:60 to 80:20, more preferably 60:40 to 75:25. Preferably, the surface of the base material 12 is roughened so as to raise adhesion with the bottom layer 16 of PES.
