Articles having poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and silica nanoparticle multilayer coatings are provided. More specifically, the articles include a substrate and a multilayer coating attached to the substrate. The multilayer coating includes a silica layer that is the outermost layer, the silica layer containing acid-sintered interconnected silica nanoparticles arranged to form a continuous three-dimensional porous network. The multilayer coating also includes a PVA layer disposed between a surface of the substrate and the outermost silica layer. The PVA and silica nanoparticle coatings can be used on a large variety of substrates and tend to be resistant to impacts, scratches, wet abrasions, soil and fog.

A process for the manufacture of a multilayer silicone structure of cured silicone elastomer layers wherein the compositions of each of the curable silicone elastomers are chosen such as to provide excellent layer-to-layer adhesion of the said cured silicone elastomer layers, that is, the layers do not suffer from cohesive failure. The multilayer silicone structures may be used for example for the manufacture of electronic devices, coatings, shaped molded articles, laminates, etc.

Disclosed is a paint film which has excellent heat-radiating properties which comprises an undercoat paint film layer which contains from 1 to 20 mass % with respect to the total solid fraction of the paint film of carbon black and a top-coat paint film layer which contains 1 to 40 mass % with respect to the total solid fraction of the paint film of a pearl pigment and which does not contain aluminum powder and the paint film thickness of the top-coat paint film layer is from 11 to 50 μm.

A method is described for applying a multiple-colour paint film to a substrate, wherein at least one first and one second pigmented paint are applied to the substrate. The application of the second pigmented paint takes place using a multiple-layer film which comprises at least one carrier and, on the latter, a layer of the second pigmented paint. The pigmented paint layer in the multiple-layer film is already cured. Furthermore, a substrate with a multiple-colour paint film is described, which substrate can be produced with a method of this type.
