According to the invention, the detection method comprises a first stage in which services are formally specified and a second stage in which the thus specified services are checked for possible interactions. A subscriber enters personal information data into a personal information manager (PIM). The PIM, either automatically, or based on additional profile requests entered by the subscriber, generates profile update data associated with the personal information data. The PIM transmits the profile update data to a database in a telecommunication system which stores subscriber profile data. The transmission is via a wired communication link, a wireless communication link, or a combination of wired and wireless communication link. Upon receipt of the profile update data by the database, the subscriber profile data stored therein is updated in accordance with the subscriber profile update data. Thereafter, telecommunication services, including call completion services and message reminder services, are provided to the subscriber based on the updated subscriber profile data.

A method for automatically updating a central LNP database shared among a plurality of central office switches is instigated when a message from a provisioning system to add a directory number is received by a central office switch. In response to the message, a first central office switch accesses the central LNP database by sending a query message which contains the directory number to be added and routing data specific to the central office switch. Responsive to the query message, the LNP database searches for the directory number received from the first central office switch. If the directory number is found, the database queries a second central office switch to determine if the directory number is in use. If the number is in use, the central LNP database returns a failure message to the first central office switch. If the directory number is not found in the central LNP database or if the directory number is not being used by the second central office switch, the directory number and routing data received from the first central office switch and a transaction entry are added to a table corresponding to the first central office switch in the database.

The network operates as an interface between various wireless (39) and wireline (29) networks, and also performs media translation, where necessary. The subscriber's message receipt and delivery options are maintained in a database which the subscriber may access by wireless or wireline communications to update the options programmed in the database. The interfaces serve to integrate multiple individual service management systems into a single multi-database transaction management system. The distributed service management system can be used to provide special personal communication services involving multiple service providers, such as call forwarding to a temporarily rented mobile telephone.

The LNP-TAS (120) receives LNP database-related query statistics from each central office switch at predetermined intervals to determine an optimum database query point based upon predefined optimization criteria. In a telephone network, customized advanced intelligent network (AIN) services are provided to standard IN/1 '800' service customers. An IN/1 service switching point (IN/1 SSP) (130) receives a call directed to the standard IN/1 '800' service customer (112), and generates an '800' query to an '800' services data base (156). An '800' service control point ('800' SCP) (150) generates an '800' response containing a carrier identification code, and the IN/1 SSP routes the call via a trunk group designated by the carrier identification code. An AIN-equipped service switching point (AIN SSP) (126) then generates an AIN query to an AIN service data base (174). In response, an AIN-equipped service control point (AIN.SCP) (170) executes AIN service records corresponding to the standar IN/1 '800' service customer to generate an AIN response containing call processing instructions. The AIN SSP (126) then uses the call processing instructions to complete the call.
