Abstract:
A lubricant contains alcohol initiated propylene oxide homopolymer, an oil soluble polyalkylene glycol other than the alcohol initiated propylene oxide homopolymer, and a calcium salt of dinonylnaphthalene sulphonate where the lubricant is further characterized by containing less than ten weight-percent of polyol esters based on total lubricant weight is useful as a lubricant for compressors.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition for an internal combustion engine according to the present invention contains a lubricating base oil, (A1) a basic calcium salicylate having a TBN of 200 mgKOH/g or more, (A2) a basic sodium sulfonate having a TBN of 200 mgKOH/g or more and/or a basic calcium sulfonate having a TBN of 50 mgKOH/g or less, (B) a binuclear organic molybdenum compound and/or a trinuclear organic molybdenum compound, and (C) a polyalkyl (meth)acrylate having an SSI of 30 or less, a total content of molybdenum derived from the binuclear and trinuclear organic molybdenum compounds being 0.025 mass% or more relative to the whole amount of the composition and the lubricating oil composition having predetermined values of a high-temperature high-shear viscosity and a NOACK value (250°C, 1 hr).
Abstract:
This disclosure is directed to a lubricant composition having improved compatibility with fluoropolymer seals. The lubricant composition includes a base oil and a sulfonate ester. The disclosure is also directed to an additive package for a lubricant composition that provides improved compatibility with fluoropolymer seals. The additive package includes the sulfonate ester. The disclosure is also directed to a method of improving compatibility of a lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal disposed in an internal combustion engine. The sulfonate ester improves the compatibility with fluoropolymer seals of the resultant lubricant composition.
Abstract:
A method for preventing or reducing low speed pre-ignition in an engine lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and at least one boron-containing compound, as a minor component. The at least one boron-containing compound includes at least one borated dispersant, or a mixture of a boron-containing compound and a non-borated dispersant. A lubricating engine oil having a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and at least one boron-containing compound, as a minor component. The lubricating oils of this disclosure are particularly advantageous as passenger vehicle engine oil (PVEO) products.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an N- hydrocarbyl-substituted δ-aminoester or δ-aminothioester provides exhibits basicity and good seal performance. In certain embodiments the N-hydrocarbyl substituent comprises a hydrocarbyl group of at least 3 carbons atoms, with a branch at the 1 or 2 position of the hydrocarbyl chain.
