    摘要: Disclosed is an encoder/decoder interrogation system useful for determining the condition of safety shields or the like which are intended to protect users of equipment having potentially hazardous work stations. The interrogation system may comprise a plurality of encoders positioned on a stationary portion of the equipment. Each of the encoders has an associated decoder positioned on a safety shield or closure member. When the decoder on the safety shield is properly juxtaposed with its associated encoder in a predetermined orientation, it becomes operable to close a circuit path through the encoder. Ascanner is provided forselectively and sequentially transmitting an interrogation signal to each of the encoders and in turn receiving signals from each of the encoders in response to the interrogation signal. A timer is operatively connected to the scanner for timing the period between the sending of a scanner interrogation signal and the receipt of an encoder response signal. If no response signal is received by the scanner before the elapse of a predetermined period of time, the timer will emit a fault signal which is operable to shut down the equipment.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for controlling the temperature of a heater element in accordance with the dwell time of an item to be heated by the heater element. The apparatus of the invention utilizes a temperature tracking circuit which is energized by a low voltage DC power source and a switching system for operating the tracking circuit in either an automatic or standby mode. Sensing means are provided for determining the dwell time of an article to be heated by the heater element and a thermocouple of the like is provided for sensing the temperature of the heater element. A heat controller, preferably of the digital programmable variety, is connected to the heater element and is responsive to the dwell time and the temperature sensing means for controlling the power to the heater in accordance with the dwell time and instantaneous heater temperature whenever the equipment associated with the heater element is operating in the automatic mode.
    Interposed between the programmable heat controller and the heater element may be a power control device which is responsive to the output of the programmable heat controller for supplying a regulated portion of a high voltage power source to the heater element. In either the automatic or the standby mode, means are provided to input a signal to the programmable heat controller for maintaining the heater element above a predetermined minimum temperature.
