In such an arrangement data associated with the smart card interface (12) may thus be stored in the RSAM memory (21) remote from the smart card interface.

A send-and-receive station (3) allows for downloading of the stored data and for loading instruction sets in contact or contactless mode. The laminate is then perforated to define a manually separable reduced size smart card device comprising said at least one antenna, said at least one chip module and said paramagnetic material, with said paramagnetic material being placed over at least part of said at least one antenna and the entire periphery of said reduced size smart card device extending outwardly of said paramagnetic material.
