摘要: Methods, apparatus and computer system for efficiently utilizing a conference bridge capacity in order to support a multipoint conference call are described. Each conference bridge 212 within multiple communication groups 202a-n determines which local communication unit 206-210 is a dominant local communication unit, quantizes that dominant local communication unit's signal, and transmits the quantized signal of the dominant local communication unit via signalling channels to the other conference bridges. Each conference bridge 212 then compares the various quantized signals of the various dominant local communication units to determine an overall dominant communication unit of the multipoint conference. Then the signal of the overall dominant communication unit is then transmitted to all communication units 206-210 participating in the conference call in various ways for different embodiments of the invention.

摘要: A system and a method for managing incoming calls within a call queue may include a network bandwidth monitor (18) for monitoring network bandwidth availability on a call center and a queue call rate monitor (21) for determining a total of all call charge rates associated with the calls. A queue manager (12) determines the order of advancement of the calls within the queue. If the network bandwidth monitor determines that network bandwidth availability is below a predetermined threshold, high network bandwidth calls are preferentially advanced to free up additional network bandwidth. Calls with high charge rates are preferentially advanced if the total call charge rate in the queue exceeds a predetermined maximum threshold. If the maximum total call charge rate threshold is exceeded and the network bandwidth availability level is below the minimum threshold, a relative priority for maintaining network bandwidth availability and reducing total call charge rates will determine the order of call advancement. In a preferred embodiment, a router resource monitor (19) determines whether router resource availability is above a minimum threshold level. Different priority sets (76, 84, 92, 100, 108, 116, 124 and 126) are configured for each combination of a low network bandwidth availability state, a low router resource availability state, and/or a high total call charge rate state. Call advancement within the queue is at least partially determined by the priority sets.

摘要: A method and system provide user management of electronic message transmissions between servers and client devices, particularly transmissions of files attached to electronic messages. The method and system operate to transfer selected attached files to and from a client device. When accessing electronic messages with attached files stored at a server by a user, the attached files that satisfy a prescribed requirement are automatically downloaded from the server to the client device utilized by the user. The prescribed requirement may include maximum file size and download time, and approved list of file formats and senders. Preferably, the prescribed requirement is entered into the client device by the user. The prescribed requirement can vary depending upon the personal preference of the user. When forwarding received electronic messages with attached files, only the attached files that have been modified are uploaded from the client device to the server.

摘要: A control interface for linking a computer supported telephony application with a PBX switch utilizing CSTA protocols utilizes ActiveX properties, methods, events, and pages to access all of the events and services provided by the CSTA protocols. Common paradigms such as Invoke_ID and timers are built in to the interface. The interface further provides statistics and diagnostics via property pages.

摘要: A system and method for predicting the wait time of a caller to a call center is disclosed. The call center associates a set of agents to which the caller may be queued. This set of agents selected may depend on the skills that each agent possesses, the type of service request made by the caller, caller priority, time of day, day of week and other conditions. An initial wait time estimate may then be given to the caller who is just queued. As a caller's conditions may dynamically change, a caller's position in the queue may also change as well as the pool of available agents. Periodic wait time estimate updates may also be given to the queued caller. A caller's wait time may be estimated based upon mean inter-arrival times for recently past calls into the call center. An average inter-arrival time may be calculated for the last several calls. Alternatively, a caller's wait time may be estimated based upon calls that are recently queued and dequeued. A table of values, Wnj, are maintained wherein each such value denoting the jth recent wait time of calls arriving with n calls already in the queue. An average value, Wn , for each n among all such Wnj, is thus calculated and a caller's estimated wait time is thus given, depending on how many calls are in the queue at the time of calling.

摘要: A method and apparatus for processing a sequence of calls directed to different destination sites (22, 24 and 26) from a single calling site (10, 12 and 14) via a provider (18) having a connection-based tariff structure that employs first and second levels of connections in order to increase cost efficiency. The first level connection (30, 36 and 38) is from the provider to an intermediate site (28), such as a server, with the first level connection being maintained throughout the sequence of calls. The second level connection (34, 40 and 42) is formed from the intermediate site to the destination sites in the sequential order determined by the calling party. Each call to a destination site includes a different second level connection that is terminated from a completion of the call, without affecting the first level connection. The call information relating to the different calls in the sequence is transmitted from the calling site to the intermediate site by techniques such as the transmission of DTMF signals or conventional digital call setup signals. In one embodiment, the provider is an exchange carrier of air-to-ground telecommunications capability.

摘要: An improved voicemail system (101) that allows a message waiting indicator to be forwarded to a remote location is disclosed. The voicemail system (101) includes a voice mail controller (103), a home location (105), and a remote location (109). A user of the voicemail system (101) is assigned a home location (105) for the reception of calls and deposition of voice messages. The user can configure the voice mail controller (103) to forward a message waiting indicator to the remote location (107) when a message is left. The voice mail controller (103) stores a table (401) that indicates the location to which a message waiting indicator should be forwarded to for each user of the voicemail system (101).

摘要: An H.323 client terminal (102) according to an embodiment of the invention employs primary and secondary H.323 control units or state machines (110a, 110b). The primary control unit (110a) sends signaling messages to a primary gatekeeper (108a) and triggers the secondary control unit (110b) to send a message with an appropriate correlation identifier to a secondary gatekeeper (108b). The primary control unit (110a) establishes a call per standard H.323 protocols. The secondary control unit (110b) also establishes a call via a secondary gatekeeper (108b). However, no media channels are established for this back up call. As the secondary control unit (110b) receives signaling from the secondary gatekeeper (108b), it checks the status of the call with the primary control unit (110a). If the call signaling on the primary control unit (110a) is proceeding normally, no further action is taken. If the call signaling with the primary gatekeeper (108a) fails, the secondary control unit (110b) takes over communication.
