A TAPI service provider may request configuration information from hardware such as a PBX. Configuration information received from the hardware is stored in a list (C2) and compared to the existing configuration list (C1). Two new lists are then generated: an added list (C4) and a deleted list (C3). All devices in the deleted list are deleted from the internal database and deleted messages are sent to the TAPI service provider. All new devices are temporarily added to the internal database and addition messages are sent to the TAPI service provider. The new device configuration list is then saved, and the added devices are marked as permanent.

A system and method of providing site-to-site compatibility of telecommunications stations allow users to transparently relocate among a number of different stations, while the apparent locations of the users remain fixed. Co-ordinator modules of a private branch exchange (PBX) establish peer-to-peer communications with station-based co-ordinator modules to provide automated routing to the station at which the particular individual is located, while leaving the apparent location of the user fixed at a designated station of the PBX. In one embodiment, the compatibility of stations allows the user to operate from a home-based station, while the apparent location of the user to any calling and called parties is an office-based station that is dedicated to the user. In a second embodiment, the compatibility allows the user to operate from any one of a variety of office stations, while the apparent location remains fixed at one of the office stations. These stations preferably include computers or other equipment that support multimedia transmissions. The user logs on at one of the telecommunications stations in order to designate the station as the 'primary station' for purposes of routing incoming calls. The co-ordinator module that is dedicated to a particular user acts as a virtual office that has no geographical location with respect to conventional office equipment. In the preferred embodiment, co-ordinator modules may be located on line cards of the PBX.

According to some embodiments of the present invention, a device (130), such as an IP enabled or compliant telephone, may receive, detect, or otherwise actively or passively determine a location identifier. The location identifier may be associated with a geographic location of the device (130). The device (130) may then provide data indicative of the location identifier to another device (204), such as a network manager device, server, computer, etc. In some embodiments, the device (130) may determine its geographic location after receiving a request for data indicative of its geographic location. In other embodiments, the device (130) may provide data indicative of its geographic location each time it receives, detects or otherwise determines its geographic location. Alternatively, the device (130) may provide data indicative of its geographic location only upon request or when it detects, receives or otherwise determines a new location identifier.

Methods and apparatus for controlling call handling in a communications network. The methods and apparatus include special processing and network signalling, between network communications devices such as an ACD system and an interconnected IVR system which enable a caller to complete a critical transaction e.g. the entering of an account number, without interruption. In particular a call may be "pulled back" depending on certain criteria (e.g. CLI, time of day). These criteria set a pullback flag that describes whether the call may be "pulled back" or not. An exemplary protocol and message encoding are disclosed.

Methods for accurate transmission of ELIN/callback number from an emergency caller calling from behind a PBX/MLTS include assigning a port equipment number to each device/trunk of the PBX/MLTS and associating ports/devices with ELINs and callback numbers. The apparatus of the invention detects an emergency number, assigns the call priority, and uses the port/device number to determine the ELIN/callback number and properly transmit the ELIN/callback number over a private network for far-end hop-off to the public network PSAP.
