A bit strip detection and a clock detection are simultaneously performed with one mark by multinary recording. Moreover, when recording information on a recording medium, a clock mark for extracting a clock when reproducing the information from the recording medium, a synchronization mark for detecting the bit strip, and a synchronization drawing mark for drawing phase synchronization at the position immediately after the synchronization mark are recorded. Even if a clock phase is shifted during reproduction, the phase shift can rapidly be recovered by using the synchronization drawing mark, thereby minimizing the error caused by signal lack.
