Die Erfindung betrifft eine mit dem In-Service-Monitoring-Verfahren überwachte Nachrichtenübertragungsanlage. Um bei einer Unterbrechung oder beim Einrichten einer solchen Ubertragungsstrecke alle betirebsfähigen Zwischenregeneratoren ZR1 bis ZRn in gehender und kommender Richtung überwachten zu können, wird das Telemetriesignal in den unmittelbar vor bzw. hinter der Unterbrechungsstelle F liegenden Zwischenregeneratoren ZR2 bzw. ZRn über Telemetriesignalumschalter TUg bzw. TUk in Gegenrichtung zu den dieses Telemetriesignal einspeisenden Leitungsendgeraten LE1 bzw. LE2 rückgeschleift. Die Telemetriesignalumschalter TUg und TUk werden von Sicherheitsschaltungen gesteuert, die im Falle einer optischen Übertragung vorzugsweise als Laserabschaltung LAg, LAk ausgebildet sind.

In a communication system wherein repeater stations (C,, C 2 , ...) and terminal stations (A, A', B,, B 2 , B,) are connected in tandem, a supervisory system in which a logical hierarchical configuration is used for the transmission of supervisory information regarding the stations and a redundant polling is used to easily and securely collect the supervisory information from the slave or repeater stations (C,, C 2 , ...) or the like. Whereby, if faults occur in some of the stations, the collection of the information is carried out without interruption and without the need to install a special information collecting line.

A supervisory system for a primary group digital transmission line wherein a terminal repeater (LTE0) transmits, over a supervisory line (L), address information designating an intermediate repeater (REP0,1,2,--) and line within the intermediate repeater to be monitored while the line is in a normal, in-service condition. The terminal repeater (LTE0) and intermediate repeaters (REP0,1,2,--) are cascaded connected by way of the supervisory line (L). The terminal repeater (LTE0) and each of the intermediate repeaters (REP0,1,2,--) include amplifiers (T₁,T₂--,R₁,R₂,--) that receive and send information along the transmission line, and have a monitor output. The monitor output is processed by an error monitor (EM) within the terminal repeater (LTE0) and in each of the intermediate repeaters (REP0,1,2,--) and the results of the error monitoring provided to the supervisory line in response to polling by the terminal repeater (LTE0).

A method of searching fault locations which is-employed in a transmission system comprising a transmitting terminal (1) having a transmitter (2) for transmitting a digital signal; a receiving terminal (5) having a receiver (8) for receiving the digital signal; a plurality of repeaters (4, 4, ...) which are placed between the transmitting and receiving terminals, and each of which receives and amplifies the digital signal from a preceding repeater section and deliver it to a subsequent repeater section; and a plurality of transmission lines (3, 3, ...) for connecting the transmitter with the first repeater, the repeaters with each other and the final repeater with each other and the final repeater with the receiver, respectively. This method comprises the steps of coding an orginal signal to be transmitted in terms of two kinds of error detecting codes at the transmitting terminal to send out them from the transmitter; detecting an error of a received signal using one of the two kinds of error detecting codes at each repeater thereby to measure the error rate occurred at one repeater section corresponding to each repeater; recording a decoded received signal using the error detecting code employed to detect the error, and delivering it to a subsequent repeater section; and transmitting signals each of which represents the error rate at each repeater section measured at each repeater, to the transmitting terminal or receiving terminal.

Method of controlling a supervisory arrangement of a digital transmission system in which a plurality of repeaters are arranged between two terminal stations, a terminal station transmitting a call message which is provided with an address number towards the desired repeater. In each repeater passed-through the received address number is increased by a fixed number, for example 1, and thereafter compared with another fixed number, for example O. The repeater which detects that the increased address number received is equal to the other fixed number transmits its service information towards at least one terminal station. This accomplishes that all said repeaters may be of an identical construction.
