    摘要: An anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal cell which has characteristics of high-speed response and broad visual field angle and generates no image persistence. This anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal cell is constituted by an anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal material narrowly held between a pair of parallel substrates. The anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal material injected between the parallel substrates has such a characteristic that when a sine voltage value obtained by changing a reference frequency is applied to the anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal cell, an imaginary part of a complex dielectric constant obtained by carrying out Fourier transform of an output voltage value outputted from the anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal cell has no maximum value within a range of reference frequency of 100 Hz to 5 kHz. In other words, this characteristic is equivalent to such a characteristic that when a real part and an imaginary part of the complex dielectric constant are plotted by Cole-Cole plot for every frequency, a curve having no maximum value within the range of reference frequency of 100 Hz to 5kHz is obtained.

The substrates are adhered to each other by dropping a mixed material of liquid crystals and resin (6) on one substrate (1b) in an amount greater than an amount needed to cover a display area for the display panel, putting the other substrate (1a) on the substrate (1b) from an edge gradually removing bubbles to elimiate excess liquid crystals outside the display area (8), and irradiating a light with adding a pressure to at least one substrate to carry out the phase-separation of the liquid crystals and resin. The substrates are fixed with alignment marks (7) of the substrates putting together.

    摘要: There is disclosed herein a ferroelectric liquid crystal electro-optical apparatus of the matrix type comprising a liquid crystal cell having first and second electrode substrates which include n striped line electrodes and m striped column electrodes, respectively, facing at right angles each other. A ferroelectric liquid crystal is put in therebetween so as to form n by m indication picture elements. Also included in the apparatus a scanning drive device adapted to supply a scanning signal and a data signal to the n striped line electrodes and the m striped column electrodes, respectively. The ferroelectric liquid crystal shows three stable states in accordance with an application voltage and has a light transmittance with a hysteresis sufficient to a dynamic drive in accordance with increase or decrease in the application voltage in a predetermined voltage range. The scanning drive device produces a first combination signal as a signal running to variation from a voltage below a reference voltage in a predetermined one polarity voltage range to a voltage above the reference voltage and produces a second combination signal as a signal which does not exceeds the reference voltage in the range, and supplies a direct-current combination signal between the electrodes after the supply of the first or second combination signal thereto.

    摘要: A liquid crystal element includes two pieces of light-transmissive substrate (1,2) which respectively include signal electrodes (3) and scanning electrodes (5) arranged in stripe patterns, and a liquid crystal layer (10) formed by filling the space between the light-transmissive substrates with a ferroelectric liquid crystal. A conductive line (11) is provided between adjacent signal electrodes (3) and adjacent scanning electrodes (5) so that only the longitudinal side faces of the conductive line are in contact with the longitudinal side faces of the respective electrodes. Each electrode (3) and conductive lines (11) adjacent to the electrode form a hybrid electrode, and an insulating light-blocking member (13) is formed between adjacent hybrid electrodes. The conductive line includes a first layer (11a) in contact with the light-transmissive substrate, a second layer (11b) placed on the first layer, and a topmost third layer (11c). The first layer is made of a conductive material such as indium tin oxide and tantalum, which is highly adhesive to the light-transmissive substrate. This structure ensures the flatness of the conductive lines, and prevents peeled-off conductive lines. The invention also provides a method of fabricating such an electrode substrate.
