The invention relates to a composite plate which is made by alternately stacking (n+1) flexible graphite sheets and (n) pinhole-perforated metal reinforcing sheets (where n = 2). The invention is characterised in that the thicknesses of the flexible graphite sheets are such that any segment of the composite plate having a thickness of 2 mm comprises at least 3 layers of flexible graphite and has a graphite mass per unit area of at most 2.34 kg/m 2 . The invention is also characterised in that, for each of the perforated metal reinforcing sheets, the height of the pinholes therein in relation to the surface of the sheet does not exceed 1.3 times the thickness of the thinnest flexible graphite layer to which it is attached. Said composite plate can be used to produce seals resistant to temperatures of up to 550 °C in continuous service.
