The control valves (7,8,9) have center bypass passages which function as individual bleed-off passages which open when the control valves are in neutral states. Opening characteristics of the control valves are set such that the center bypass passages are closed in initial stroke periods in which the control valves move toward operating positions.

A method for operating the valves includes requesting a desired velocity for the hydraulic actuator (16) and sensing a parameter which varies with changes of a force on the actuator. The desired velocity and the parameter are used to derive an equivalent flow coefficient which characterizes fluid flow in the hydraulic circuit. From the equivalent flow coefficient, first and second valve flow coefficient are derived and then employed to activate each of the first and second electrohydraulic proportional valves (21,24). The coefficients may characterize either conductance or restriction in the respective part of the hydraulic system (10).

The invention relates to a hydraulic drive having several hydraulic consumers (10, 40, 41, 42, 43) also comprising a differential cylinder (10) and located especially in a plastic injection molding machine. A first (25) and a second (26) hydraulic machines are provided, both of which can operate as a pump and as a motor. The first of the two hydraulic machines is connected to a tank (30) by means of a second connection (29) and communicates with a pressure line (19) by means of a first connection (28). The pressure line can be connected to the working chamber (13) of the differential cylinder located on the rear side of the piston rod by means of a check valve (17). The second hydraulic machine is also connected to the pressure line by means of a first connection (32) and can be connected by means of a second connection (33) to a tank via a non-return valve (34) that opens in the direction of the second connection and to the working chamber (14) of the differential cylinder located on the rear side of the piston rod. According to the invention, both hydraulic machines (25, 26) can also be used to supply pressurized medium to at least one additional hydraulic consumer (40, 41, 42, 43). To provide a way to ensure the supply of a necessary amount of hydraulic fluid to the established actuator circuits even if the pressure in the independent attachment circuit becomes excessively high. Hydraulic fluid fed from hydraulic pumps 2,3 is controlled by means of established actuator circuits 5,6 to operate established actuators of a construction machine. A flow dividing control valve 10 causes a part of the hydraulic fluid fed to the established actuator circuits 5,6 to branch off and be fed to the independent attachment circuit 7 with its amount controlled by variable throttles 39,40, thereby driving the attachment of the construction machine. A method and system for controlling fluid pressure in a hydraulically actuated device is provided, in which the device receives an input indicating the amount of work that the device is to perform, and the threshold pressure of a relief valve (16) is adjusted so that the pressure of the fluid is appropriate for the amount of work indicated by the input. In one implementation, the device receives a user input representing the amount of work to be performed by the device. Based on the user input, a setting for a relief valve (16) that is sufficient to maintain the fluid pressure at a level appropriate for the amount of work required is determined. An electrical signal is then sent to the relief valve (16) to adjust it to the determined setting. Determining the proper setting for the relief valve (16) may involve referencing a look-up table that maps user input values to electrical signal values. It may also involve calculating the value of the signal needed to adjust the relief valve (16) to the determined setting, by, for example, inputting the value of the user input into a function and obtaining the signal value as a result.
