The invention provides for an order selection system and related method of operating the system for retrieving multiple types of items stored in preselected storage locations and delivering retrieved items in an orderly sequence to a plurality of packing stations (22) in accordance with the specific requirements of different orders. The order selection system comprises a dispenser (12), a conveyor (14), a dispensing control system (16), a sorter (18), a plurality of stacking devices (20), and identifying means to identify the end of each order. The steps in the method of operating the system are: arranging the multiple types of items in the preselected storage locations, determining the requirements of order to be filled, dispensing the items stored in the preselected storage locations in an alternating order sequence in accordance with the requirements of sequential orders, receiving the dispensed items on the conveyor (14) in the alternating order sequence, transporting the dispensed items on the conveyor (14) toward the packing stations (22), sorting the items so as to divert every other item toward separate packing stations (22), stacking the sorted items into discrete continuous stacks conforming with the specific requirements of the orders, and identifying the end of each order.

Es ist vorgesehen, daß eine laufende Standortbestimmung der mobilen Einheiten mittels eines Satelliten-Navigations-System (GPS = Global Positioning System) erfolgt und die Standortdaten einem Leitzentral-Rechner zugeführt werden, der unter Berücksichtigung der Standortdaten den jeweiligen Einsatz und die jeweilige Auftragsvergabe für jede mobile Einheit nach weg-/zeit-/und/oder prozeßabhängigen Parametern optimiert steuert.

An automated paint-batching system for producing paint cans of any size and color. The system includes a plurality of paint-batching cells, with each cell having a machine comprised of either one or two dispensing stations (16, 18). When two dispensing stations are used, the two dispensing stations are: A first tint-station (16), where a small volumetric dispensing of the base, water-base or oil-base, of the paint is dispensed, in order to wet the bottom of the can, at which first station, thereafter, is dispensed all of the liquid colorants making up the formula of the paint can, and a second base-dispensing station (18) at which the remainder of the base of the formula of the paint is dispensed. Each of the first and second stations of the paint-batching machine of the invention has operatively associated therewith a weighing mechanism (70) upon which rests the paint can during the dispensing at the respective station used in quality-control weighing of each dispensing. When only one dispensing station is used, all of the above-steps are performed at the one station. Each paint can has attached to it a bar-code label which represents a relocatable memory-address of the computer which stores the color-formula from that can and other information. The computer operating system controls the guidance of the particular paint can along its conveyance, so that the paint can is designated to one of a plurality of paint-batching cells of the system of the invention, with the bar-code of the paint can being read at a plurality of stations along the entire manufacturing process.

The plurality of package outlets (102) on the package sorting device are respectively communicated with the package collection device. The plurality of package outlets (102) are respectively located at a middle section and/or an edge of the package sorting device. An accommodating device (103) is provided at a location on the package collection device and below each of the package outlets, and has an opening diameter exceeding that that of each of the package outlets. The method can increase package sorting efficiency significantly, is simple to implement, and has wide applications.
