Abstract:
A curable film-forming coating composition, typically a clearcoat, having improved compatibility over waterborne and solventborne basecoats. The composition includes a film-forming binder comprising a carbamate material, a curing agent, typically a monomeric melamine curing agent, and a hydroxy functional silane component. When used as a clearcoat over a standard pigmented basecoat, the resulting coating provides a substantially wrinkle free appearance and excellent adhesion to both waterborne and solventborne basecoats.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to printing plate coating compositions comprising: (a) a carbon pigment dispersible in water; (b) at least one polymer comprising at least one ionomeric polymer subunit; and (c) at least one high molecular weight thickening agent which shows pseudoplastic behavior. The printing plate precursor of this invention is prepared by coating a printing plate substrate with the coating composition.

(A) a copolymer which comprises:
(I) repeating units which are derived from a monomer having a fluoroalkyl group, and a carbon-carbon double bond, (II) repeating units which are derived from a monomer having a urethane or urea bond and a carbon-carbon double bond, but no fluorine atom, (III) repeating units which are derived from a monomer having a carbon-carbon double bond, the homopolymer of said monomer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 50°C or less, (IV) optional repeating units which are derived from a monomer having a carbon-carbon double bond and a hydrophilic group, and (V) optional repeating units which are derived from a monomer having a chlorine atom and a carbon-carbon double bond, wherein at least one of the repeating units (IV) and the repeating units (V) are present, and
(B) a film-forming auxiliary which is a diester and/or a glycol ether which dissolves or swells the copolymer and which has a solubility parameter (sp) at 25°C of between 8 and 11, the composition being in the form of an aqueous dispersion of the copolymer dispersed in a medium comprising water and a nonionic, cationic or anionic emulsifier. The composition can impart high water and oil repellency by drying at room temperature (0-30°C) without requiring a he at treatment step.

A curable coating composition comprising functionalized oligomer components i and ii which cross-link at cure to form a three-dimensional network having chains of substantially uniform, controllable molecular weight between cross-links; oligomers i and ii having weight average molecular weights not exceeding about 3,000, a polydispersity for (i) not exceeding about 1.5, and functionalities that react with one another to cross-link i and ii at cure to yield coatings with an excellent balance of hardness and mar resistance.
Abstract:
A powder coating composition which forms a coating film having excellent smoothness and having no defects such as bubbles or pinholes is produced easily without via a long and complicated production step and without the fear of gelling during production. A solution of powder coating composition materials which comprises as essential components (A) a base resin which has groups capable of undergoing a curing reaction and is solid at ordinary temperature, (B) a hardener which is reactive with the groups and is solid at ordinary temperature, and (C) an organic solvent is spray-dried at a temperature at which the curing reaction between the base resin (A) and the hardener (B) does not substantially occur.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for enameling substrates with a coloring and/or effect-giving base enamel and clear enamel coating. According to said method, a coloring and/or effect-giving base enamel layer from a base enamel coating compound is applied to a substrate and then given a clear lacquer coating using the wet-on-wet technique. The non-hardened clear enamel layer is exposed to high-energy radiation before being baked with the base enamel coating. The clear enamel coating compound used is one with a resin solid comprising 50 to 98 weight per cent of system A, which can be cured thermally by addition and/or condensation reactions and which is essentially free from radically polymerizable double bonds and essentially free from groups which also react with radically polymerizable double bonds of system B, and 2 to 50 weight per cent of system B, which can be cured by radical polymerization of olefinic double bonds during exposure to high-energy radiation. The weight per cent values total 100 weight per cent and the C=C equivalent weight of the total resin solid of A and B is between 300 and 1000.
