A purpose of the present invention is to provide substrates utilized for a library of DNA by immobilizing DNA and DNA-immobilized chips utilized for reproducing DNA by a PCR amplifying reaction. In the present invention, PCR amplifying method is operated by utilizing DNA-immobilized chips having DNA immobilized on an excellent conductive substrate. A surface of the substrate is chemically modified with a radical of which a terminal is a polar radical. In the PCR method, DNA can be amplified for a short period by utilizing DNA-immobilizing chips having DNA immobilized on the substrates.

Human G-protein coupled receptor polypeptides and DNA (RNA) encoding such polypeptides and a procedure for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques is disclosed. Also disclosed were methods for utilizing such polypeptides for identifying antagonists and agonists to such polypeptides and methods of using the agonists and antagonists therapeutically to treat conditions related to the underexpression and overexpression of the G-protein coupled receptor polypeptides, respectively. Also disclosed are diagnostic methods for detecting a mutation in the G-protein coupled receptor nucleic acid sequences and an altered level of the soluble form of the receptors.

The present invention provides a novel polypeptide, Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF), polynucleotides CTGF, and including 5'and 3' untranslated nucleotides, antibodies reactive with CTGF and means for producing CTGF. Also provided are diagnostic and therapeutic methods for using CTGF, as well as an assay for identifying compositions which affect the expression of CTGF polynucleotide. The invention provides a novel TGF-β responsive element upstream of the polynucleotide encoding CTGF structural gene.

The genetic material is complexed to cationic liposome carriers. The genetic material is lipofected into cells of the mammalian organ. Gene expression and cellular function of the genetic material are activated to produce the desired foreign products in the cells of the organ.

Disclosed is a method of reducing or inhibiting the tumorigenicity of a tumor cell in which a vector including a nucleotide sequence encoding a differentiation factor receptor, or a polypeptide portion thereof, is transferred to the tumor cell such that the nucleotide sequence is expressed. Tumorigenicity is monitored by cell growth and colony formation in a semi-soft medium, a reduction in proliferation being indicative of the reduction or inhibition of tumorigenicity of the treated tumor cell.
