摘要: A method of continuously forming heated conduit (17) includes performing a tape (31) for winding onto a spiral pipeline former. At least one conductor (4,5) is positioned adjacent to the centreline of and parallel with a thin polymer ribbon. The ribbon is folded in half to encapsulate the conductors. The folded ribbon is thermally welded to itself. The folded, welded, ribbon is passed through a creaser, which forms a crease midway across the folded ribbon. The creased pre-formed ribbon is formed into a conduit in a continuous process on a spiral pipeline former (24).

摘要: Capsules, for example for the delivery of pharmaceuticals, are produced from two films (18) of a water-soluble polymeric material, by deforming the films to form a multiplicity of recesses, and filling the recesses, using two adjacent rotary dies (14, 15; 42) with recesses (16) into which the films (18) are deformed. The dies (14, 15; 42) act as electrodes for welding the films together by dielectric welding to form filled capsules (30). The capsules (30) can be separated from the resulting web either by coating at least one of the dies (14) with an electrical insulator (21), or by transferring the web from the dies (14, 15; 42) to a second pair of dies which cut the capsules (30) free. The polymeric material may be gelatin, or a water-soluble cellulose derivative such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, and may also contain a plasticiser.

摘要: Thermo-welding tool for connecting thermoplastic resin moulded product parts together significantly reduces cooling time. A welding boss 5a formed on the moulded product part 5 is inserted into a fixing hole 6a formed on a fixed part 6 to be connected. A tip section of boss 5a projecting out from the hole 6a is heated and fused to form a head portion 5c overlying the part 6 to secure same. A portion of the end of the tool has a heating element 20 with a tip section 21 to apply heat and fuse the welding boss 5a. Slits 23 are provided in a side wall of the heating element to exhaust air after cooling the inside of the heating element 20. A pipe 10 supplies cooling air to the inside of the heating element 20 this being blown from the outlet 14 onto the back of the operative end portion 21 of the heating element 20 and also from side apertures 12 onto the internal surface of the heating element 20. The side apertures 12 are located in an offset position longitudinally and rotationally so that they do not directly face said slits 23.

摘要: A web for the manufacture of fluid filled units with a novel machine and process is disclosed. The web includes an elongate heat sealable, flattened plastic tube comprised of face and back imperforate layers. The layers are imperforately joined together along spaced side edges (32). The layers include superposed longitudinal lines of weakness (35) disposed generally transversely midway between the side edges (32). The web has longitudinally spaced, pairs of transverse seals (34). Each transverse seal (34) extends from a respective side edge to an end near but spaced from the longitudinal lines of weakness. The transverse seal pairs include transverse lines of weakness (36) extending from one side edge to the other generally centrally of each seal in a longitudinal direction. The side edges, transverse seals and lines of weakness together delincating two oppositely oriented strings of pouches with each pouch having three imperforate sides and a centrally located fill opening at its fourth side. The transverse lines of weakness arc spaced slightly more than one half the circumference of a cylindrical fluid fill nozzle during pouch fluid filling.

摘要: A machine (10) for the manufacture of inflated plastic dunnage and other fluid filled units is disclosed. In a disclosed and pictured dunnage embodiment, the machine includes a hollow shaft rotatably mounted on a frame. In the preferred embodiment the shaft is solid. With either embodiment a drive is operably connected to the shaft for causing the shaft (42) to rotate about its axis and a drum (12) mounted on the shaft to rotate with the shaft. The drum is in the form of a pair of closely spaced discs (18) having perimetral, cylindrically contoured sealing surfaces for support and, in cooperation with driven metal belts, transport of a web being formed into dunnage units. Sets of heating and cooling shoes (38) having spaced arcuate surfaces are complementally positioned adjacent the drum surfaces with the cooling shoes downstream from the heating shoes in the direction of dunnage formation rotation. A nozzle is mounted generally tangentially of the drum at a location midway between the discs. Each of the cooling shoes includes an air expansion chamber communicating through a shoe inlet when in use with a supply of air under pressure. In the hollow shaft embodiment one cooling shoe chamber has an outlet in communication with the nozzle via the shaft.
