摘要: The invention comprises a composition and method for controlling the gloss of surface covering products through curing of the composition to create a wearlayer surface, and preferably on a floor covering product. The surface covering product preferably is prepared by application of an aromatic polyester acrylate composition including a flatting agent and/or hard particles, and at least one free-radical generating compound to a substrate, and then the coating is partially cured by exposure to low peak irradiance UV light in either ambient or inert air, followed by fully curing the coating with high peak irradiance UV light in preferably an inert atmosphere to form a low gloss abrasion resistant wearlayer surface. Alternatively, a high gloss wearlayer surface is obtained by solely exposing the preferred composition to high peak irradiance UV light in ambient atmosphere. Furthermore, a differential gloss flooring product is obtained by using the present inventive method described herein.

摘要: A low-cost way to modulate the reactivity and acid number of polyetherester thermoset resins is disclosed. 'Beginning' and 'end' methods for making dicyclopentadiene (DCPD)-modified polyetherester resins are described. The 'beginning' method comprises first heating a polyether, DCPD, a diol, an insertion catalyst, and a carboxylic acid derivative to produce a mixture that contains the polyether and a DCPD-diol diester adduct. Increasing the temperature causes insertion of the DCPD-diol diester into the polyether to give a DCPD polyetherester resin. The 'end' method reacts a polyetherester resin made by insertion with DCPD to give a DCPD polyetherester resin. Compared with DCPD polyester resins, those of the invention give more flexible thermosets. Compared with unmodified polyetherester resins, the DCPD polyetherester resins offer formulators more control over curing, which eliminates mold distortion and shrinking or cracking of thermoset parts. Thermosets from blends of the subject resins and DCPD polyester resins show synergistic property improvements compared with thermosets from either resin alone.

摘要: The inventive method provides a simple and economical method of manufacturing a laminate which is catalytically effective for subsequent electroless deposition thereon of metals, such as copper, and which is useful as a substrate for printed circuit boards. Advantageously, the inventive method provides an improved laminate having a substantially uniform distribution of finely divided catalytic metal, Me (0) , within a crosslinked synthetic polymer impregnant. A catalytic metal-polymer complex is formed between a salt of a catalytic metal and a crosslinkable synthetic polymer, optionally containing a monomeric reactive diluent, to provide a concentrate which may be worked up into an impregnating composition for impregnating reinforcing material therewith. The complex is then destroyed and the catalytic metal, such as palladium-II, reduced to elemental metal, such as palladium metal, Pd (0) , during or after crosslinking of the polymer system under conditions effective for crosslinking the polymer system.. Preferably destruction and reduction occur during crosslinking. The catalytic metal is a Group IB or Group VIII metal, preferably palladium or nickel. The crosslinkable synthetic polymer is an unsaturated polyester or polyvinyl ester.
