A dual wavelength focal plane has a first array of infrared sensing pixel elements and a second array of visible light pixel elements adapted to be selective .colors encountered while driving an automobile. The second array is selective to the colors red, blue and green, so being selective to traffic control signals, including brake lights of other automobiles. The arrays are vertically stacked on a monolithic silicon substrate. The arrays are electrically coupled to a processor and display ,to integrate the infrared and color pixel elements into a view for a driver of the automobile.

The present invention relates to a device for the spectral measurement of objects in which the object is exposed to a wide-spectrum radiation. The rays reflected and emitted by the object are directed towards a receiving device so that the whole receiving device receives the radiation from the same spatial area. The radiation is then submitted to a spectral division, and the radiation reflected and emitted by the object is injected into a light guide through a lens as a non-clear-cut image. The radiation from the different spatial angles is then mixed in this light guide. After its output from the light guide, the radiation is submitted to a spectral filtration. In order to suppress the high resolution even further, a dispersion member and a light guiding block fitted with connection tabs are mounted before the light guide. The ends of the connection tabs are provided with filters and sensors.

In luminance-priority multilayer color film, one of the layers substantially matches the luminance sensitivity of the human eye. This luminance layer distinguishes from prior art color films that have a blue, a green, and a red sensitive layer. This luminance layer has the priority front position to sense light before being diffused and attenuated by other layers, giving the luminance record enhanced speed and clarity compared to prior art blue-priority color film. In another embodiment, a layered CCD sensor has a top silicon layer (1012) that is sensitive to all colors, followed by a yellow filter (1010), a second silicon layer (1008) responsive to green and red light only because of the yellow filter, a cyan filter (106), and a bottom silicon layer (1004) receiving only green light. An image from a luminance-priority color sensor inputs to a color space conversion to recover full color. In the preferred embodiment, a luminance layer on top maps to a luminance 'Y' value, and underlying color sensitive layers are used in conjunction with the luminance to derive the 'U' and 'V' chrominance vectors of YUV color space.

There is provided a portable, high precision color measuring device (22) for measurement of color of non-self-luminous objects. A spectral analyser (58) separates light reflected from an object (32) into spectral components and produces signals corresponding to the levels of spectral components of the reflected light. The device utilizes a dual beam (40, 44) reference system and an illumination homogenizing chamber (92) to negate the effect of instrument component variations and ensure high precision measurements at any instrument orientation. Also, the device optimizes its measurements by adjusting the gain level of each signal produced by the spectral analyzer with a programmable gain amplifier (84, 86). In addition, the device includes various features that compensate for variations in light source intensity and illumination, color temperature, displacement of the device during measurements, alteration of control button position, and adaptability to various optical geometries.

An apparatus for colour control of objects (11) has an approximately point-shaped light source in the form of a xenon flash lamp (16), which illuminates a specific, desired area through a diaphragm (17). Light reflected from the object is received by a detector unit (13) having three or more sensors (22) with their respective spectral sensitivities, which are positioned at such a great distance from the object that each sensor receives substantially the same amount of light from all parts of the illuminated area. The detector signals are amplified by amplifiers adapted to filter all signals exhibiting another timewise variation than the light source, so that disturbing influence form the surroundings is avoided. The apparatus is simple and fast and is versatile in use.
