Abstract:
A system and method to obtain and process interferometer output scans is described. The interferometer-based sensor system includes a tunable laser to transmit a transmit signal and a polarization scrambler to produce a polarization state change on the transmit signal. The system also includes an interferometer to provide an output scan based on the transmit signal with the polarization state change and a processor to process the output scan.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and system for performing an operation in a borehole is disclosed. A device is disposed in a downhole environment of the borehole to perform the downhole operation. An energy harvesting unit coupled to the device harvests energy from an energy source in a downhole environment of the device and provides the harvested energy to the device to perform the downhole operation.
Abstract:
The seal has a base ring that expands with the underlying supporting tubular. Extending from the base ring is a pleated structure with segments folded over each other so that the run in shape is small and up against the supporting tubular for run in. The pleated segments can have internal stiffeners that also add a bias radially outwardly when the structure is freed to move in that direction. A retaining band keeps the assembly retracted until tubular expansion defeats the band to allow the unitary structure to move out radially to the wellbore or surrounding tubular. The pleated portion unfolds and spans outwardly from the base ring to retain pressure differential in one direction while allowing fluid flow in the opposite direction. The assembly can be attached to a swage device so that pressure from above can drive one or more swage members to expand a tubular.
Abstract:
A composite includes a substrate, a binder layer disposed on a surface of the substrate; and a nanofiller layer comprising nanographene and disposed on a surface of the binder layer opposite the substrate. In addition, a nano-coating layer for coating a substrate includes multiple alternating layers of the binder layer and the nanofiller layer. Articles coated with the nano-coating layer prepared from alternating layers of nanofiller layer and binder layer have improved barrier properties, and may be used in down-hole applications.
Abstract:
A tubular actuating system includes a plurality of series of actuators disposed within a tubular with at least one of the series having a plurality of actuators. Each of the plurality of actuators in the at least one of the series is alterable from a first position allowing passage of plugs below a selected size to a second position allowing actuation by plugs of selected sizes. The plurality of actuators of the series are distributed within the tubular such that the more upstream of any two of the plurality of actuators is actuatingly engagable with a larger one of the plugs than the more downstream of the two of the plurality of actuators when in the second position, and the plurality of series is distributed such that for any two of the series the more upstream of the two series requires a larger plug to alter the actuators therewithin.
Abstract:
Methods of forming a polycrystalline element comprise forming a polycrystalline table on a first substrate. Catalyst material may be removed from at least a portion of the polycrystalline table. The polycrystalline table and a portion of a first substrate attached to the polycrystalline table may be removed from a remainder of the first substrate. The portion of the first substrate may be attached to another substrate. Polycrystalline elements comprise a polycrystalline table attached to a portion of a first substrate on which the polycrystalline table was formed another substrate attached to the portion of the first substrate.
Abstract:
A diverter fluid includes an aqueous carrier fluid, and a plurality of water-swellable polymer particles having a size of 0.01 to 100,000 micrometers. A method of hydraulically fracturing a subterranean formation penetrated by a reservoir includes injecting a fracturing fluid into the formation at a pressure sufficient to create or enlarge a fracture, injecting a diverter fluid into the formation, and injecting a fracturing fluid into the formation, wherein the flow of the fracturing fluid is impeded by the diverting agent and a surface fracture area of the fracture is increased. A method of controlling the downhole placement of a diverting agent is also disclosed, including injecting a diverter fluid including the diverting agent and an aqueous carrier fluid selected so that the polymer particles are fully swelled after contacting the aqueous carrier fluid for an amount of time sufficient to achieve a desired downhole placement.
Abstract:
Cysteine synthase or O-Acetyl-L-Serine Sulfhydrylase enzymes, such as those derived from the Aeropyrum pernix bacterium, may be used in additive compositions, fluid compositions, and methods for decreasing or removing hydrogen sulfide from recovered downhole fluids and/or the subterranean reservoir wellbore from which the downhole fluid was recovered. The fluid composition may include at least one cysteine synthase enzyme and a base fluid, such as a drilling fluid, a servicing fluid, a production fluid, a completion fluid, an injection fluid, a refinery fluids, and combinations thereof.
