    摘要: An optical transmission system includes means for measuring optical dispersion in the optical path, and a controllable element such as a dispersion compensator, operable in dependence on the measured value of dispersion. A low frequency dither on the optical signal causes timing jitter which varies according to the dispersion in the optical path. The timing jitter is extracted from a clock signal recovered from the optical signal. This jitter is correlated with the original dither to remove jitter effects caused by other mechanisms. Thus a value for dispersion is derived which can be used for monitoring or control purposes.

    摘要: An N=3 frequency plan for 60 degree sector transmit sector receive (STSR) cell sites is based upon dividing available channels into 18 frequency groups. Frequency assignment is in accordance with an odd-even cyclic distribution of channels which provides a three-channel separation between sectors within a cell and an eight-channel separation between cells. This ensures adequate channel isolation between sectors and improved adjacent channel C/I performance throughout the network. The N=3 frequency plan increases channel capacity by approximately 38 % in AMPS and 114 % in TDMA-3.

    摘要: A shelf for housing printed circuit boards in which a back plane has an extension in the form of a back plane extender printed circuit board electrically connected to the back plane and extending forwards from the back plane at one side of the shelf. In a location forwardly of the back plane, the extender printed circuit board carries a connector structure which extends outwards from the extender printed circuit board and has connectors outwards from the extender printed circuit board. These connectors are accessible either from the front or rear of the shelf dependent upon connector orientation. This structure avoids the need for connectors on the rear face of the back plane thus allowing for the back plane to be located further to the rear and permitting increase in size in circuit boards to be mounted within the shelf. The connector structure is preferably detachable so as to permit its replacement with a different design of connector structure. The connector structure may include its own printed circuit board which when changed for a board of different design may change the operation of the total circuit board arrangement including the back plane.

    摘要: A CML/ECL clock phase shifter device provides a 360° phase control range and, upon being provided with two CML clock signals related by a known phase difference, the device produces any desired phase in response to a control signal. The device uses a CMOS current switch which generates current signals having the amplitude adjustable with the control signal, which is a digital word. Differential pairs provide amplitude modulated current signals for the input clock and the variant of the input clock. Two MOS transmission networks selectively invert each amplitude modulated signal and sum the signals from each side on a load network. The phase control resolution is optimal over four quadrants for quadrature input clock signals.

    摘要: The invention provides a means by which a radio system in a multipath propagation environment may improve the probability of successful reception of a message by the application of diversity. It is applicable to such applications as paging, cordless telephones, cellular telephones, and radio identification tags. The transmitter sends the message repeatedly, each repetition transmitted from a different antenna. The antennas are separated so that multipath fading of the signal arriving at the receiver from each transmit antenna is substantially uncorrelated with the multipath fading of the signal arriving at the receiver from the other transmit antennas. The receiver examines the radio channel for an incoming message for a time period long enough for it to potentially receive the message from each antenna. Even if the message sent from one antenna is faded such that it cannot be received successfully at the portable receiver, the likelihood is that the message will be successfully received when it is transmitted from another antenna.
