An insulin pump is configurable by a configurator. The pump has parameter blocks, each with a respective parameter and an associated restriction setting, and the configurator has an authorization level. Configuring the pump includes receiving, by the configurator, a request to access a parameter on the pump. The method also includes identifying, by the configurator, the parameter block that includes the parameter. Moreover, the method includes retrieving, by the configurator from the pump, the parameter and the associated restriction setting, and comparing, by the confi-gurator, the authorization level of the configurator to the restriction setting. Also, the method includes determining, by the configurator, whether the configurator is authorized to write to the parameter block based on the comparison. Additionally, the method includes writing, by the con-figurator, to the parameter block on the insulin pump in response to a determination that the con-figurator is authorized to write to the parameter block.

The present invention is directed to improved methods for amplifying and detecting a nucleic acid target that may be present in a biological sample comprising a primer pair for generating an amplicon, wherein at least one primer is modified at the 5' terminus with a polyN sequence, which consists of one type of nucleotide or two different nucleotides, being non-complementary to the target sequence, and a detectable probe specific for said amplicon or a DNA binding dye. The formation of high molecular weight products during amplification is prevented or partly or completely suppressed. The invention further provides use of appropriately modified primers and a kit comprising said primers for preventing or suppressing the formation of high molecular weight products during amplification and detection of the nucleic acid target.

The present invention relates to a method for determining the amount of the specific analyte of a sample which may show interferences by photometric assays, wherein the specific analyte is quantified from the change in the optical signal of the reaction mixture after the interaction of the analyte with analyte specific assay reagents. Multiple calibration curves are generated for multiple wavelengths for the specific analyte of a sample to be determined, the measurement results are deposited in a data management system of the instrument platform. An interference test is performed simultaneously to the determination of the specific analyte, for quantifying the amount of interfering substances present in the sample to be determined. The amount of each interfering substances is compared to predetermined cut-off values. The optical signal for the specific analyte of a sample to be determined is measured in the reaction mixture at multiple wavelengths over the complete reaction time, and a calibration curve is selected depending on the interfering substances. Finally, the amount of the specific analyte of a sample to be determined is quantified by comparison with the selected calibration curve for the chosen wavelengths.

Systems and methods for the expression of bodily fluid from an incision in the skin include devices which bear against the skin in a manner to retain the fluid adjacent the incision site and urge the fluid inwardly toward the incision. One system utilizes a constricting member (12) which engages the skin at initial, outer positions, and moves to draw the skin into an inner position forming a bulged, pinch of skin (15) containing the incision site (20). The constricting member (12) comprises flexible or non-flexible components, and is formed as a single, continuous member or as a plurality of discrete elements.
