    摘要: A test composition, device and method for determining a peroxidatively active substance in a test sample, as well as a method for preparing the device, are disclosed. The composition comprises an organic hydroperoxide and an indicator capable of providing a detectable response in the presence of the organic hydroperoxide and peroxidatively active substance, wherein the organic hydroperoxide is a substituted cumene hydroperoxide having the formula:
    in which any one of the X substituents is lower alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Cl, Br, l, NO 2 or carboxyl; or any two ofthe X substituents, same or different, are lower alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Cl, Br, l. NO 2 or carboxyl. The device comprises a carrier matrix incorporated with the composition, and the method comprises contacting a test sample with the device and observing a detectable response in the device. A method for preparing the device comprises preparing a solution of the composition, wetting the carrier matrix therewith and drying the wetted matrix.

    摘要: The precision in reflectance or absorption measurements used to determine the presence and concentration of a component in an assay liquid in unexpectedly increased to essentially eliminate the variability of different reactant carriers and variability in reflectance or absorption instruments by including, either within the reactant carrier or within the assay liquid sample, in addition to a primary color forming or color changing indicator, a secondary, inert colorant compound or dye having a light absorption wavelength peak separated from a light absorption wavelength peak of the primary indicator or chromogen by at least 80 nm. To achieve the full advantage of the present invention, the colorant material or marker should be inert to the reactant system in the carrier and should be inert to the assay liquid to provide al light reflectance or light absorption response essentially distinct from the light reflectance response of the primary chromogen to compensate for measurement variability. In this manner, any inaccuracy obtained from a reflectance or absorption measurement of the secon­dary colorant marker, incorporated into the carrier or into the assay sample in known concentration, can be used for compensation of a reflectance or absorp­tion measurement of the primary color formed as a result of interaction or reaction of the test sample with the reagent composition, and, therefore, the concentration measurement of a predetermined compo­nent of the assay liquid.

    摘要: A new and improved test device, method of manufacturing the test device, and method of determining the presence and relative concentra­tion of a component in a test sample. The device includes a carrier matrix incorporated with a reactant system capable of interacting with a sample component to produce a detectable response. For home use, the reactant system produces a visibly detectable response. The carrier matrix of the device comprises a new and improved whole blood compatible, glucose-permeable strip or layer of a polymerizable silicone material. A reactant system is homogeneously mixed into the polymerizable carrier matrix prior to complete curing of the matrix, and the matrix then is cured to hold the reactant system homogeneously throughout the carrier matrix in a known concen­tration while maintaining matrix penetrability of the predetermined component after complete curing of the carrier matrix. The carrier matrix is formed from a dispersion of a polymerizable silicon-containing compound applied in an in­completely cured from in a liquid carrier contain­ing a homogenously mixed reactant system.

    摘要: A stable test device capable of manufacture by automated methods for the determination of chloride in an aqueous fluid sample. The test device operates by controlled diffusion of the aqueous sample into a porous matrix. The matrix is incorporated with sodium carrageenan and silver sahs capable of dissolving in an aqueous fluid containing chloride, at least part of which silver salts is silver chromate. Devices prepared with the inclusion of sodium carrageenan provide a chloride test device with approximately double the shelf life under room temperature storage conditions as previous test devices prepared without sodium carrageenan. The stable test device provides useful information in less than about 2 minutes after the sample contacts the matrix. The chloride concentration of the sample is determined by comparing the pattern of silver chromate remaining after sample contact to an appropriate pattern chart.

    摘要: A device for making accurate, reproducible light reflectance measurements on an optically nonuniform specimen comprises means for holding the specimen in a fixed position. In one embodiment the specimen is illuminated by light sources that are arranged at acute angles relative to the specimen and ( ± 1°) apart in azimuth, where N = the total number of light sources. The light sources are sequentially energized and deenergized to illuminate the specimen. A light detector receives light reflecting from the surface and generates an electrical signal, which is subsequently processed. In another embodimentthe light sources are arranged in pairs in which the two light sources in a pair are simultaneously energized and deenergized and the pairs are sequentially energized and deenergized. A method for measuring reflected light is also provided. The device and method are useful for making biochemical assays with reagent test strips by measuring the tone of coloration of the strips after treatment with a target substance being examined.
