In a method for producing gas turbine fuel through the step of modifying heavy fuel oil (16) with the use of an asphaltene-insoluble solvent (15), the utilization factor of the heavy fuel oil (16) usable as gas turbine fuel is increased by making asphaltene selectively removable. A solvent having a specific dielectric constant in the range of 1.4 to 2.0 is used as the asphaltene-insoluble solvent (15). In particular, water controlled in temperature and pressure so as to have a specific dielectric constant in the above range is used as the asphaltene-insoluble solvent (15). By using such a solvent (15), an asphaltene component (17) contained in the heavy fuel oil (16) can be selectively removed and power generation can be performed while utilizing 95% or more of the heavy fuel oil (16).

The present invention 1, 2 or 3 provides a desulfurization function-added FCC catalyst which can efficiently reduce the sulfur content of FCC gasoline while maintaining the yield of FCC gasoline in a process of producing FCC gasoline by cracking of heavy oil. The catalyst has vanadium supported on a carrier comprising (a) an alumina-coated zeolite and (b) a porous inorganic oxide except zeolite and/or a clay mineral, wherein the supported vanadium amount is from 500 to 20000 ppm by mass in terms of vanadium metal and the acid amount is from 20 to 450 µmol/g and the macropore surface area is from 30 to 150 m 2 /g; or the catalyst has vanadium supported on a carrier containing from 5 to 40 % by mass of (a) an alumina-coated zeolite and from 30 to 70 % by mass of (b) an alumina, wherein the vanadium concentration ratio before and after grinding the catalyst is at least 2; or the catalyst has at least vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus supported on a porous inorganic oxide-containing carrier, wherein the supported vanadium amount is from 500 to 20000 ppm by mass in terms of vanadium metal, vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus form a complex ion in the supporting solution for use in supporting vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus, and the permeability of the complex ion through a reverse osmosis membrane is at most 25 % relative to the permeability of vanadium through the reverse osmosis membrane.

Provided is a method of purifying a polyarylene sulfide by washing it with a mixture of an aprotic organic solvent and a salt prepared through reaction of a strong acid with a weak base, followed by further washing the polyarylene sulfide with a mixture prepared by adding a halogenoaromatic compound having an electron-withdrawing group to an aprotic organic solvent of a temperature of from 150°C to 300°C. The method makes it possible to reduce the impurities such as alkali metal halides in polyarylene sulfide, thus giving thermally stable polyarylene sulfide.

There is disclosed a process for treating a by-product salt of a polyarylene sulfide which comprises subjecting solid matter containing an aprotic organic solvent and the by-product salt that is formed in the case of producing a polyarylene sulfide by polymerization condensation reaction of an alkali metal sulfide and a dihalogenated aromatic compound in the aprotic organic solvent to a drying treatment followed by a firing treatment of the resultant dryingly treated matter at a temperature in the range of 500 to 1000°C . The above process is capable of enhancing the solubility in water, of the by-product salt comprising sodium chloride as the principal component in the production of polyarylene sulfide, and affording waste water which is lowered in SS and COD in the case where the by-product salt is dissolved in water and is discharged as waste water.

It is made possible by the continuous polymerization process to discharge the polymer phase and solvent phase from a polymerization vessel at a constant ratio and as a result, to maintain PAS composition (concentration) at a constant level at all times, and thus to provide a continuous PAS production process which is effective for enhancing its molecular weight and stabilizing the same.

A suspension of alumina gel obtained by dispersing alumina gel into pure water so that the concentration of alumina is in the range of 0.1-12 wt.% and an aqueous solution of metallic salt in which a compound of metal in VIA group and that of metal in VIII group are dissolved are mixed, and the resultant mixture is dried and hardened by evaporating the water while agitating the mixture, whereby these metal components can be supported effectively on the alumina gel up to a sufficiently high support quantity. This enables a high-performance catalyst composition constituting a catalyst the performance, such as activity, of which is superior to that of a hydrogen treated catalyst, and such as a conventional hydrodesulfurized molten catalysts to be obtained easily. When this catalyst composition is brought into contact with sulfur-containing hydrocarbon in the presence of hydrogen, hydrocarbons from which sulfur has been sufficiently removed can be obtained.
