    摘要: A ceramic seal assembly (10) for electrically insulating and hermetically securing a terminal to a housing through which the terminal extends. The housing contains a fluid at a high pressure and an electrical device to which the terminal is connected. An adapter (40) is provided for hermetically securing the seal assembly (10) to the housing. The adapter comprises a generally tubular member defining two end portions and a collar (15) secured to one of the two end portions. The seal assembly (10) and housing are hermetically secured to the tubular member at separate locations. The seal assembly (10) contains at least one annular ceramic member (11, 12, 13) and is oriented such that the high pressure fluid contained within the housing causes the annular ceramic member (11, 12, 13) to be in compression and thereby maintain a seal between the terminal and the housing.

    摘要: An explosion-proof valve electrical disconnect assembly incorporates a vent valve contact disk (30) which seals the can of a compact electrochemical cell and which faces a juxtaposed stripper contact disk (28) welded at the center by a weld nugget at a weld point (W), forming a rigid, preferably increased thickness, mass. The underlying stripper contact disk (28) is weakened about the weld point (W), surrounding the weld nugget to ensure pull-through of the stripper contact disk portion immediately adjacent to the weld connection to effect initial electrical separation of the two contact disks. Subsequent rupture of the vent valve contact disk (30) releases high pressure gas internally from the cell. A semi-rigid assembly cup may support a rigid grommet (32) functioning to sandwich the vent valve contact disk and the stripper contact disk facilitated by crimping of the can top (18) about a deformable L-shaped cross-section annular assembly cup (36). A current responsive PTC element (34) forms a second circuit breaker independent of the first mechanical circuit breaker formed by the two contact disks.

    摘要: A support assembly, including an end plate, for use in metal gas cells. The support assembly inhibits a plate stack (20) which is positioned within a pressure vessel (12) from impinging the walls of the pressure vessel. The support assembly comprises a first and a second weld ring (60, 62) and a first and a second end plate (50, 52), each of the end plates being attached to a different end of the plate stack (20). The first and second weld rings (60, 62) mate with the first and second end plates (50, 52), respectively, and cooperate to support the plate stack. The end plate comprises two plates secured together. A raised portion on one of the plates forming the end plate has a radially extending embossment formed therein to increase the rigidity thereof. The pressure vessel (12) is constructed of generally cylindrical container (14) defining two circumferentially extending lips, each of which is secured to an end portion (16, 18).
