The copolymer can be produced via ring-opening metathesis polymerization of a) one first olefin monomer selected from the group consisting of cyclic olefin monomers having at least one endocyclic C-C double bond, where no tertiary carbon atom bearing a hydrogen atom is present in alpha-position to the double bond, and b) one second olefin monomer selected from the group consisting of cyclic olefin monomers having one endocyclic C-C double bond, where a tertiary carbon atom bearing a hydrogen atom is present in at least one alpha-position to the double bond, where the copolymer has been oxidized at least to some extent, where the amount of polycyclic olefin monomers used to produce the copolymer with at least two C-C double bonds is zero or less than 1 mol%, based on the entirety of the monomers.

The invention relates to aqueous compositions containing a) at least one polymer PALK in the form of dispersed polymer particles, wherein the polymer PALK can be obtained by the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of at least one cyclic olefin monomer and b) at least one polymer P2 in the form of dispersed polymer particles, wherein the polymer P2 does not have an olefenically unsaturated C-C bond and has repeating units which have at least one polar group. The aqueous compositions are suitable in particular for producing films and barrier coatings which have a very good barrier effect against gases such as air, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide, in particular against oxygen and oxygen-containing gases such as air. At the same time, the films and coatings have very good mechanical properties, in particular a high elongation at break while having a good tear strength.

The invention relates to the use of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion adhesive for producing biologically disintegratable composite films, wherein at least two substrates are glued to each other using the polyurethane dispersion adhesive, wherein at least one of the substrates is a biologically disintegratable polymer film. The polyurethane is made up to at least 60 wt % of diisocyanates, polyesterdiols, and at least one bifunctional carboxylic acid selected from dihydroxycarboxylic acid and diaminocarboxylic acid.

A pigment is disclosed wherein the pigment includes a platy substrate or uniform platy substrate coated with an odd number of layers of alternating layers of high or low refractive index material, wherein each layer has a refractive index that differs from adjacent layers by at least 0.2; and the pigment has from about 40 to about 100% reflectance of light having a wavelength of 280 nm to 400 nm. Processes for making and using the pigments are also disclosed. These pigments can find application in paints, plastics, cosmetics, glass, printing inks, and glazes.
