Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous radiation curable composition comprising: (I) at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound (A), and (II) at least one emulsifier (B) comprising alternating polyalkylene oxide segments, wherein said emulsifier optionally bears one or more groups selected from alkyl groups, aryl groups hydroxyl groups and/or ethylenically unsaturated groups, and wherein said emulsifier ( B ) has an HLB value of at least 4.5. The compositions of the invention are particularly suited for the manufacture of sprayable eco-friendly hardcoats, but they are also suitable for the making of inks, overprint varnishes and adhesives, alone or in combination with e.g. a water-borne polymer dispersion.

Abstract: The instant invention is an aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same. The aqueous based blend composition according to the present invention comprises: (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, wherein the polyolefin dispersion has an average volume particle size diameter in the range of from 400 to 1500 nm, and a pH range from 8 to 11; and (b) one or more crosslinking agents selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkylamide resins, and combinations thereof, wherein said crosslinking agents comprise from 0.1 to 50 percent by weight based on the solid content of the dispersion; wherein said aqueous based blend composition has a solid content in the range of from 15 to 70 percent by weight of solids, based on the weight of the aqueous based blend composition, wherein said solid content of said blend composition comprises up to 99.9 percent by weight of the one or more base polymers, based on the weight of the solid content of the aqueous based blend composition, based on the weight of the solid content of the aqueous based blend composition, and a pH in the range of from 8 to 11.

Abstract: A cellulose reactive glyoxalated copolymer composition and methods of producing and using the glyoxalated copolymer composition to, for instance, strengthen paper or board are discussed. The cationic copolymer can have a weight average molecular weight of about 120,000 to about 1 million Daltons, the cationic copolymer can include diallyldimethylammonium halide monomer and acrylamide monomer, and a ratio a ratio of the weight average molecular weight of the cationic copolymer before glyoxalation to weight % of diallyldimethylammonium halide monomer making up the cationic copolymer before glyoxalation can be equal to or greater than 4,000 or range from 4,000 to 40,000 Daltons/weight %.

Abstract: The invention relates to a finely divided, starch-containing aqueous polymer dispersion which is obtainable by free radical emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of at least one redox initiator and starch, wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprise (a) from 30 to 65% by weight of acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile, (b) from 35 to 60% by weight of at least one C1-C12-alkyl acrylate and/or at least one C1-C12-alkyl methacrylate, (c) from 0 to 35% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerisable monomer, in which the sum of (a), (b) and (c) totals 100%, and in which the aqueous polymer dispersion comprises, (d) from 10 to 55% by weight of an ionic tapioca starch, in which the weight of (d) is based on the total solids of components (a), (b), (c) and (d) of the aqueous polymer dispersion. The invention also relates to a process for the manufacture of the finely divided, starch containing aqueous polymer dispersions and also to the use of said finely divided starch containing aqueous polymer dispersions as a size for paper, board and cardboard.
