摘要: A method of treating human skin to decrease transepidermal water loss. A method of enhancing the substantivity of conditioning compounds applied to the skin. A film forming conditioning formulation which includes as an ingredient thereof an organosilicon compound is applied to the skin. The improvement resides in the utilization of a formulation which includes as the organosilicon compound a cyclic alkylmethyl polysiloxane.

摘要: A nail lacquer which includes a film forming resin, a plasticizer and a solvent. The improvement relates to the utilization as the film forming resin of the nail lacquer a graft copolymer which has a main backbone chain of acrylic ester monomer units and methacrylic ester monomer units. The main backbone chain has grafted thereto side chain units of carboxyl groups and side chain units of trialkoxysilyl groups. Nail coat compositions containing these film forming resins provide improved wear resistance.

摘要: An emulsion and a mixture including water, at least one surfactant and a polymethylalkylsiloxane. The polymethylalkylsiloxane has the formula:
wherein R is a methyl radical, a is an integer from one to about three thousand and b is an integer from one to about ten. Also disclosed is a method of rendering a surface repellent to water by treating the surface with an effective amount of the foregoing emulsion. The surface being treated is an organic surface and can be a rubber surface such as wires, cables, the sidewall of a pneumatic tire, footwear, molded goods and coated fabrics. The surface can also be a vinyl surface such as flooring, shower curtains, rain coats, automotive seat upholstery, residential siding and piping.

摘要: A process for the preparation of substantially polycrystalline silicon carbide fibers, and the product produced thereby, are provided. The fibers may be fabricated to have a small diameter and are thermally stable at high temperatures. The process is carried out by initially forming fibers from a preceramic polymeric precursor comprising phenyl-containing polyorganosiloxane resins. The fibers are then infusibilized to render them nonmelting followed by a pyrolysis step in which the fibers are heated to a temperature in excess of 1600°C. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to form substantially polycrystalline silicon carbide fibers. The substantially polycrystalline silicon carbide fibers which are formed by the process of the present invention have at least 75% crystallinity and have a density of at least about 2.9 gm/cm³.
The polymeric precursor or the fibers contain, or have incorporated therein, at least about 0.2% by weight boron. This incorporation of boron may be accomplished either prior to or during formation of the fibers or during at least one of the infusibilizing or pyrolyzing steps of the process.
