A tool breakage detecting system adapted to detect the breakage of a tool with a high accuracy which occurs in some cases even when a load is not substantially imparted to a rotary shaft and a tool feed shaft. The disturbance load torque of a main shaft and a shaft for relatively moving a work and a tool is monitored by a rotary shaft disturbance load torque estimating means (1) and a moving shaft disturbance load torque estimating means (2), and also the disturbance load torque of a shaft which does not relatively move a work and a tool by stationary shaft disturbance load torque estimating means (3, 4). The breakage of the tool is judged by a comparison means (5) on the basis of the estimated disturbance load torque from these estimating means, and, when the breakage of the tool is detected, the machine is stopped by a machine stoppage command means (6).

An axis movement method and an axis movement apparatus, in which the time required for non-cutting movement is reduced. Sections 2 and 5 are curved paths each starting in the same direction of the immediatly preceding path and a tool is accelerated to a speed for a rapid motion in the next path. The section 2 is succeeded by another curved path in which the tool is decelerated to a speed adapted to the next path. A quick axis movement can be completed within a short time without intermittent motions or shocks to the machine.

This invention provides a tool breakage prevention system which can easily and accurately detect an abnormal load and correctly prevents breakage of a tool. Even when tool breakage has already occurred, this tool breakage prevention system can suitably cope with such abnormality. First disturbance torque estimation means (1) estimates a disturbance torque Ys acting on a spindle motor (73) on the basis of a speed signal X1s of the spindle motor (73) and a torque instruction value U1a to the spindle motor (73). Second disturbance torque estimation means (2) estimates a disturbance torque Yz acting on the servo motor (63) for feeding on the basis of the speed signal X1z of the servo motor (63) and the torque instruction value U1z to the servo motor (63). Comparison means (3) combines the estimation disturbance torques Ys and Yz to determine a combined disturbance torque Y, and compares it with a reference torque Ye set in advance. Deceleration/stop instruction means (4) outputs an instruction signal to decelerate, or replace the tool depending on the result of comparison.
