The present invention provides a propylene/1-butene random copolymer (PBR) having excellent flexibility, impact resistance, heat resistance and low-temperature heat-seal properties, a polypropylene composition containg the copolymer, a sheet, film or stretched film comprising the composition and a composite film having a layer of the composition. The propylene/1-butene random copolymer contains 60 to 90 mol% of propylene units and 10 to 40 mol% of 1-butene units and has a triad isotacticity of not less than 85% and not more than 97.5 %, a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of from 1 to 3, an intrinsic viscosity of from 0.1 to 12 dl/g, a melting point (Tm) of from 40 to 120°C, and satisfies the following relation

The invention, further, provides a transition metal compound useful as an olefin polymerization catalyst and an olefin polymerization catalyst containing the transition metal compound. This invention aims to provide lubricating oil compositions excellent in low-temperature properties, oxidation stability, lubricity at high temperatures and fuel efficiency and also in handling properties at low temperatures, and a viscosity modifier for lubricating oil employable in said lubricating oil compositions. The viscosity modifier for lubricating oil comprises an ethylene/ alpha -olefin copolymer (B) composed of: (i) ethylene, (ii) an alpha -olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms, and (iii) a higher alpha -olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms wherein the carbon number of (iii) is larger than that of (ii) by one or more, and the ethylene/ alpha -olefin copolymer (B) has the following properties (b-1) and (b-2): (b-1) a content of ethylene (i) is in the range of 40 to 80 % by weight, a content of the alpha -olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms (ii) is in the range of 15 to 59 % by weight, and a content of the higher alpha -olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms (iii) is in the range of 0.1 to 25 % by weight with the proviso that the sum is 100 % by weight; and (b-2) a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) in terms of polystyrene as measured by GPC is between 80,000 and 400,000.

Disclosed is an ethylene-α-olefin-nonconjugated polyene random copolymer having such properties that (i) the copolymer contains units derived from ethylene (a) and units derived from the α-olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms (b) in a molar ratio of 40/60 to 64/36 [(a)/(b)], (ii) the iodine value is 1 to 50, (iii) the intrinsic viscosity (η) is more than 0.3 dl/g and less than 5.0 10 dl/g, (iv) the intensity ratio D of Tαβ to Tαα in the 13 C-NMR spectrum, Tαβ/Tαα is not more than 0.5, (v) the B value is 1.00 to 1.50 and (vi) the glass transition temperature Tg is not higher than -50°C. Also disclosed is a vulcanizable rubber composition containing the random copolymer. A process of preparing this copolymer by using a metallocene catalyst containing a specified metallocene compound is also disclosed. The ethylene-α-olefin-nonconjugated polyene random copolymer and the rubber composition are excellent in mechanical strength, weathering resistance, ozone resistance, processability, low temperature flexibility and heat resistance.
