Contact lenses can be sterilized effectively in a short time, by using a kit for contact lens sterilization which comprises an oxidizing agent for sterilizing contact lenses and a reducing agent for making nontoxic the oxidizing agent still remaining after sterilization and wherein the oxidizing agent and the reducing agent each have such a property and form that they do not substantially react with each other in the kit and that when they are placed in water substantially simultaneously, the major portion of the oxidizing agent dissolves in water more rapidly than the major portion of the reducing agent. Further, with this kit, the sterilized contact lenses can be made nontoxic without fail.

The chlorite decomposes to form free oxygen which removes impurities from a lens to be cleaned. The oxygen consuming agent prevents excess free oxygen from attacking the lens after the impurities have been removed.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Kontaktlinsenpflegemittel mit desinfizierender Wirkung mit einem Gehalt an chlorfreisetzenden Verbindungen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß es zur Kombination mit einer reinigenden Wirkung a) eine chlorfreisetzende Verbindung enthält und 0,5 bis 100 ppm verfügbares Chlor in der Gebrauchslösung eufweist, b) eine oder mehrere Proteasen enthält und eine proteolytische Aktivität von 1 bis 1000 E in der Gebrauchslösung aufweist, c) übliche Formulierungshilfsstoffe enthält, sowie ein Verfahren zum Pflegen von Kontaktlinsen durch Behandeln mit chlorfreisetzenden Verbindungen, wobei der Wirkungseintritt der Enzyme gegenüber dem Wirkungseintritt der chlorfreisetzenden Verbindung zeitlich verzögert wird.
