An apparatus and method for abating scale formation during the purification and demineralization of water in an electrochemical deionization apparatus. In the apparatus and method, scale forming ions in a raw water feed are precipitated at a controlled location remote from the deionization chambers of the deionization apparatus. Concentrate water produced during the deionization process to produce demineralized product water is acidified and circulated through the deionization apparatus to prevent scale formation and build-up in the deionization apparatus.

A process and an arrangement forthe recovery of a compound, for example a peptide-containing compound, from a solution through combined affinity-chromatographic purification and ultrafiltration. The process comprises the bringing into contact of the said compound in solution with a ligand bound to a carrier capable of reacting with the peptide-containing compound so as to form a complex and subsequently the splitting off and separating of the peptide-containing compound from the complex formed. The apparatus of the invention comprises (i) a filter device comprising: a tubular first chamber having a filter provided in a surface thereof, a second chamber in fluid communication with the first chamber through the filter, the device being provided with an inlet port opening to the first end of the first chamber, an outlet port opening to the second end of the first chamber, and a filtrate port opening to the second chamber, and (ii) a fluidic pathway from the outlet port, wherein the apparatus is configured to introduce the first liquid and a second fluid immiscible with the first to the first chamber and the apparatus comprises a flow cut-off means in the fluidic pathway from the outlet port.
