A coating system for golf balls using magnetic levitation is described. Golf balls including magnetic material interact with a magnetic field generated by a magnetic field source with a platform. The interaction between the magnetic field and the golf ball causes the golf ball to levitate above the platform. A conveyor apparatus is used to move the golf balls and platforms through the coating system. The levitating golf balls are sprayed with coating material. Spraying the levitating golf balls allows for even and uniform coating of the golf ball. Additionally, imparting a spin or rotation to the golf balls assists with the even and uniform application of the sprayed coating material.

An improved method for high-volume production of coated stents with highly uniform stent coatings using a roll coating technique is provided. In a first embodiment, uncoated stents (8) are placed onto rotating stent holders with automated stent handling equipment. The holders are mounted on an endless conveyer belt (1) which advances the stents toward a stent coater. As the stents (8) advance through the coater (9), the holders (7) rotate, thereby rolling the stents (8) about their longitudinal axes as coating material is sprayed toward them, ensuring the stents (8) are uniformly coated on their exterior and interior surfaces. After the conveyer (1) turns to carry the coated stents (8) back toward the loading area, the rotating stents (8) pass again through the coating spray, downstream of the initial coating location, thereby increasing the efficient utilization of the coating material. The conveyer (1) then advances the coated stents to an unloading area for removal before the holders return to the stent loading area to receive new stents.

The same or another conveyor (8) conveys the fasteners to an irradiation station (10) and rotates the fasteners for irradiation thereof. The irradiation station irradiates and thus cures the composition applied to each fastener. The invention also provides a curable composition for application to a threaded article.
