    摘要: A drill press (10) has variable speed drive via belts (52, 58) on stepped pulleys (50, 54, 60) that transfer rotational force from the motor (22) to the drill press spindle (32). Three stepped pulleys (50, 54, 60) connected by two belts (52, 58) are provided in the example. A belt tension roller (68) bears against one of the belts (52, 58) to provide tension for effective power transfer from the motor (22) to the spindle (32). The belt tension roller (68) is adjustable along an arcuate slot (98) in an anchor plate (92) and is fastenable in position by an adjustment knob (94) on the belt tension roller (68). The middle pulley (54) is mounted to vary its position so that tension adjustments on one belt (52) by the belt tension roller (68) result in tension adjustments on the second belt (58) as well.

    摘要: An Improved spindle drive train for rotatably driving the spindle of a machine tool comprises a frame fastened to which is a motor whose shaft extends into the frame. Keyed on that portion of the motor shaft extending into the frame is a pinion gear which is in meshing engagement with one of the gear members of a cluster gear joumaled in the frame for rotation about and transverse movement along an axis parallel to the motor shaft. Journaied into the frame parallel to the cluster gear is the tool-carrying spindle which has a shaft extending coaxially therefrom within the frame. The spindle shaft carries a plurality of gear thereon, each dimensioned to meshingly engage a corresponding cluster gear member, and each is aFigned with one another so that when the spindle is at a predetermined angular orientation, the teeth on each of the gears line up permitting axial shifting of the cluster gear. The gears on the spindle shaft are spaced apart such that as the cluster gear is biased along its axis, one of the gears on the spindle shaft and its complementary cluster gear member engage just as another gear and its complementary cluster gear member disengage, assuring constant synchronism between the spindle and the motor. Motor shaft position is obtained by a resolver fastened directly to the motor shaft, thereby preventing excessive resolver back lash.

    摘要: In a positive feed power drill having a spindle drive gear train and a spindle feed gear train, where a single motor drives both gear trains through separate coupling gears on a common shaft that are engaged while the spindle is advanced to drill through a work piece, and having means for disengaging the feed coupling gear to automatically retract the spindle, provision is made for field adjustment of the differential in the gear ratios of the gear train to adjust the feed rate relative to the drive rate for a particular work-piece material by removing a cap directly over the common shaft for the coupling gears, and replacing at least one of the coupling gears with a gear of the same diameter, tooth height and pitch, but a different number of teeth. The profile of the teeth is modified as the number of teeth is increased, or decreased, in order that smooth meshing of the teeth will be assured with adjacent gears which are not changed.
