The invention relates to a method for creating a support body, in particular a yarn tube (2), comprising a base element consisting of a thermoplastic material with openings and a liquid-permeable and/or gas-permeable flat cover which can be laid over the surface of said base element (7) and which is immovably attached thereto. The base element (7) is partially melted, in order to attach it to the cover. According to the inventive method, at least one section of the base element to be heated is brought into direct contact with a heated thermal element (6), by means of the continuous advancement of said base element (7) and the cover is pressed progressively onto the base element immediately after the melting process. Support bodies of this type in a rotationally symmetrical form are used, for example, as yarn tubes and support bodies with a flat and convex configuration are used as filter cartridges. The inventive method enables the cover to be securely attached to the base element, using relatively simple materials, without using an additional adhesive.

A pipe shell is provided with an outer cover of a flexible material by an automatic procedure. The invention provides also the machinery. A web (11a) of the flexible material is withdrawn from a supply roller. A tape (20) having an adhesive on both sides is attached crosswise the web at the front edge. A web length substantially equal to the circumference of the pipe shell or the tube-shaped body plus the width of the strip is withdrawn. A second tape (20) having adhesive on both sides is attached crosswise the web (17) at a distance from the front edge of the web equal to said web length. The web which preferably has been provided with an adhesive (23, 24) in advance, at least partially, in the area between the strips is cut such that said web length is obtained. The pipe-shell (17) is placed onto the cut web length with a cut-through in the shell extending in the direction of the generatrix in register with the cut edge of the web. The adhesive is activated and the pipe shell is rolled on the cut web length such that is encompasses the pipe shell with an overlap corresponding to the width of the tape. The procedure is repeated for a desired number of pipe shells and pipe shell diameters, respectively.

A pipe (10) of polyethylene is reinforced by two layers (12, 14) of polyethylene tape wound around the pipe in opposite directions under tension. The pipe contains carbon black and the layers are unpigmented and free from fillers and are transparent to infra-red radiation to which the first major surface (21) is exposed. The radiation is in the near infra-red region and has a substantial part of the radiant energy of a wavelength of less than 2.5 micrometers. Very little radiation is absorbed by the layers but a very high absorption occurs in the outer surface of the pipe. This causes the interface between the second major surface (36) of the layer (12) and the first major surface (38) of the pipe and between the second major surface (28) of the layer (14) and the first major surface (30) of the layer (12) to reach temperatures at which fusion welding in the layers welds them together and welds the layer (12) and the pipe (10) together.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Erzeugen einer mechanischen Schutzschicht auf der Oberfläche eines mit einer passiven Korrosionsschutzschicht, z.B. einer thermoplastischen Kunststoffmantelschicht versehenen Stahlrohres. Um eine Ummantelung mit der Schutzschicht bei höherer Produktionsgeschwindigkeit zu ermöglichen, ohne dass sich Probleme hinsichtlich der Lagerung der beschichteten Rohre vor der Aushärtung des aufgebrachten Gemisches ergeben, wird vorgeschlagen, dass auf das härtbare Material aufnehmenden Trägerfolie ein körniges Material, dessen Grösstkorn der gewünschten Schichtdicke entspricht, aufgebracht wird und dass Rohr auf der ausgebreiteten Trägerfolie zwecks Ummantelung abgewälzt wird.
