The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for mechanically bonding substrates together. The apparatuses may include a pattern roll having three or more pattern elements protruding radially outward, wherein each pattern element includes a pattern surface. The pattern surfaces are also separated from each other by gaps having minimum widths. The pattern roll may be adjacent an anvil roll to define a nip between the pattern surfaces and the anvil roll, wherein the pattern roll is biased toward the anvil roll to define a nip pressure between pattern surfaces and the anvil roll. As substrates advance between the pattern roll and anvil roll, the substrates are compressed between the anvil roll and the pattern surfaces to form a discrete bond region between the substrates. During the bonding process, some of yielded substrate material also flows from under the pattern surfaces and into the gaps to form gap grommet regions.

Process for manufacturing a plastic fuel tank equipped with a pump, by moulding a tubular parison cut into two sheets with the aid of a mould comprising two cavities and a core, said process comprising the following steps: 1. the parison is introduced into the mould cavities; 2. the core is introduced inside the parison, said core having first been fitted with a swirl pot comprising a housing for the pump; 3. the mould is closed so that the cavities come into leaktight contact with the core; 4. the parison is pressed against the cavities by blowing through the core and/or applying a vacuum behind the cavities; 5. using a device firmly attached to the core, the swirl pot is fastened to the parison; 6. the mould is opened to withdraw the core; 7. the final moulding of the parison is carried out by blow moulding (by injecting a pressurized fluid inside the parison) and/or thermoforming (by applying a vacuum behind the cavities); and 8. the tank is demoulded and through an opening in the latter the pump is mounted in the housing of the swirl pot.
According to the invention, the mounting of the pump is achieved by way of an intermediate part, the external shape of which is standard and complementary to that of the housing, and the internal shape of which is adapted to the pump.

The invention relates to a method for producing an article that encloses built-in parts and has the form of a hollow body made of thermoplastic material. The hollow body is advantageously embodied as a fuel container. The method comprises the extrusion of one or several web-type or tubular preforms (13) of plastified material, said preforms being pressed against the open parts of a moulding tool (9a, 9b) forming a cavity. At least one built-in part (1) to be enclosed by the finished article is placed between the parts of the moulding tool (9a, 9b), the tool being closed around the preforms (13) and the built-in part (1). The preforms (13) take the exterior form of the article within the cavity enclosed by the tool. The built-in parts (1) are pressed against the inner wall (4) of the material that is still plastic during or immediately after the moulding process, so that the plastic of the hollow body penetrates and flows into at least one recess or opening of the built-in part (1).

This invention provides a method for joining a material that is free from troubles such as overhang of protrusions which causes restriction on design, and loosening and falling, can realize joining of materials widely ranging from thin plates to thick plates and, at the same time, can avoid the occurrence of quality defects such as cracking or deformation and can realize joining with excellent recycling efficiency while maintaining good workability and working environment. The method comprises superimposing a second material (2) on a first material (1) having a previously formed joining hole (3) so as to cover the joining hole (3), pressing, against the second material (2), a joining tool (8) disposed so as to correspond to the joining hole (3) while rotating the joining tool (8), locally softening the second material (2) in a solid phase state by taking advantage of frictional heat, intruding the second material (2) into the joining hole (3) in the first material (1), forming a geometric engagement part (a crest part (5’) and an anchor part (6’)) of the second material (2) intruded into the joining hole (3) with the first material (1) side, then withdrawing the joining tool (8), and hardening the engagement part to join the first material (1) to the second material (2).

Die Verpackung ist dabei vorzugsweise eine Blisterverpackung, die aus einer Rückkartonplatte (11) und einer mit dieser lösbar verbundenen Kunststoff-Folienhaube besteht. In der Rückkartonplatte (11) sind Aussparungen angebracht, durch die Vorsprünge (20) der Folienhaube hindurchreichen. Die Vorsprünge (20) weisen einen Bodenabschnitt (26) auf. Die Rückkartonplatte (11) und die Folienhaube werden derart zusammengefügt, daß die Vorsprünge (20) sich durch die Aussparungen hindurch erstrecken und abschnittsweise über diese vorstehen. Die vorstehenden Abschnitte werden umgeformt und zwar zu Wülsten, die die Aussparungen der Rückkartonplatte (11) umgreifen. Der Werkstoff des Bodenabschnitts (26) wird zur vergrößerten Ausbildung der Wülste in einer zur Ebene der Rückkartonplatte (11) parallelen Ebene umgeformt. Dies geschieht vorzugsweise dadurch, daß der Bodenabschnitt (26) mittels eines spitzen Stempels (36) aufgerissen wird, so daß der zuvor ebene Bodenabschnitt (26) hülsenförmig hoch steht und dann mittels eines Wärme- und Druckwerkzeuges (43) zu verbreiterten Wülsten umgeformt werden kann.

A process for joining two plates (10, 20) includes several steps. A first step is providing a first plate (10) made of a first kind of synthetic resin which will absorb a laser beam. A second step is setting a second plate (20) having a hole and formed of metal or a second synthetic resin on the first plate (10). The hole may be filled with a powder (90) of the first synthetic resin. A third step is exposing a portion (11) of the first plate (10) within the hole to a laser beam. The first kind of synthetic resin stores up the heat of the laser beam, so that the portion (11) of the first plate (10) is melted by the heat of the laser beam. A fourth step is inserting a glass or crystalline rod (60, 62) through the hole of the second plate (20) and into the melted first kind of synthetic resin. The melted first kind of synthetic resin thereby is pushed out from the hole in the second plate (20) to form a lip ring (13) of the first kind of synthetic resin. A fifth step is drawing out the rod (60, 62) from the first kind of synthetic resin, leaving the lip ring (13) of the first kind of synthetic resin of the first plate (10) to the second plate (20).
