The invention relates to a multilayered pultruded structure having a weatherable cap layer over a pultruded substrate, adhered with an appropriate tie layer. The structure provides improved weatherability and surface quality for pultruded structures. The invention is especially useful to provide a weatherable pultruded polyurethane, with an acrylic or styrenic cap layer. The weatherable polyurethane (PU) pultrusion of the invention provides an increased modulus over polyester pultrusions, making the weatherable PU pultrusion useful in commercial applications, and applications requiring a higher transverse modulus.

A method and apparatus are provided which enable formation of a thermoplastic article having a high volume loading of a long fiber reinforcement. The method includes providing a first thermoplastic composite material having at least about 40 volume percent of at least one reinforcing fiber; providing at least one mold, the mold(s) each comprising at least one first mold section having an inlet and an outlet and defining a first mold cavity and at least one second mold section having an inlet and an outlet and defining a second mold cavity, wherein the outlet of the first mold section is in communication with the inlet of the second mold section; introducing the first thermoplastic composite material into the first mold cavity; applying heat and pressure to the first thermoplastic composite material in the first mold cavity until the first mold section reaches at least a first process temperature; releasing the pressure on the mold; and reapplying pressure to the mold while cooling, wherein at least a portion of the first thermoplastic composite material flows out of the least one outlet of the first mold section and into the second mold cavity, wherein said cooling solidifies the first thermoplastic composite to form a molded article having the shape of the second mold cavity. Articles formed from such methods and apparatus are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a part made from composite material, having a body and one or more continuous fibre bundles in its interior, characterised in that it comprises the stages of: a) obtaining a body that includes one or more tubular cavities in its interior that extend between a first end, disposed on the outer surface of the body and which comprises an inlet orifice, and a second end, opposite to the first end; b) introducing resin in the liquid state and a continuous fibre bundle in the interior of at least one tubular cavity through its inlet orifice; and c) curing the resin until it solidifies, adhering to the body and fixing the continuous fibre bundle. The invention also relates to a system for manufacturing a part made from composite material and to the part made from composite material obtained.

The system comprises a central moulding portion for forming at least a part of the web body, a first moulding plate for forming at least a part of the first web foot flange, and a second moulding plate for forming at least a part of the second web foot flange. The angles of the first moulding plate and the second moulding plate relative to the central moulding portion are adjustable.
