This invention concerns a continuous hydroformylation process comprising reacting an olefinic compound with hydrogen and carbon monixide in the presence of a reaction mixture comprising (1) a rhodium-containing catalyst having no reactive halogen and having at least one ligand complexed with said rhodium, the ligand comprising a complex compound containing at least one diaryl phosphino alkyl group and wherein the number of such diaryl phosphino alkyl groups in complex association with said rhodium is at least 2, e.g., (Ph2PCH2CH3)3Rh(CO)H, and (2), a non-complexed ligand substantially all of which is a non-complexed compounds containing at least one diaryl phosphino alkyl group, e.g., Ar2P(CH2)5PAr2 wherein the molar ratio of non-complexed ligand to rhodium is greater than 75:1 and wherein the ratio of the partial pressures of hydrogen to carbon monoxide is at least 3:1.

The object of the present invention is to provide a new organic phosphorus ligand that can efficiently promote cross-coupling reaction to obtain the target substance at high yield, as well as a method of manufacturing such ligand whose steric characteristics and electronic characteristics can be fine-tuned and which can be used to cause cross-coupling reaction at high yield. As a means for achieving the aforementioned object, a phosphine compound expressed by General Formula (1) below is provided.
(In the formula, R 1 and R 2 are each independently a secondary alkyl group, tertiary alkyl group, or cycloalkyl group, while R 3 and R 4 are each independently a hydrogen, aliphatic group, heteroaliphatic group, aromatic group, alicyclic group, or heterocyclic group. Note that R 3 and R 4 have no phosphorus atom and that R 3 and R 4 are not both hydrogen at the same time).

Des compositions de materiau extremement utiles dans des procedes d'hydroformylation. Les compositions sont des hydrides non charges, non chelates de carbonyle de rhodium bis- et tris-(alkyle diaryl phosphine). Les substituants du groupe alkyle comprennent des radicaux hetero organiques contenant des groupes silane, silicone, ether, ester, keto et hydroxyoxygene, phosphine oxyde et phosphore ester phosphore, amine, amide, amine oxyde et des groupes heterocycliques azotes. Ces compositions sont des catalyseurs selectionnes et extremement stables pour l'hydroformylation d'olefines sous certaines conditions. Les systemes catalyseurs de l'invention contiennent un grand excedent de liant de phosphine et utilisent une alpha-olefine ainsi que des melanges de reaction de gaz de synthese ayant un taux eleve de H2/CO a des pressions relativement basses. Ils produisent en grande partie des aldehydes derives de l'attaque finale sur le corps reagissant d'alpha-olefine. Dans le cas d'olefines inferieures, tel que le butene-1, les produits peuvent etre avantageusement soutires de maniere continue, sous forme de composants distilles d'un melange de reaction d'un corps liant maintenu a une temperature elevee et alimente de maniere continue en un melange appropriee des reactifs.

Allylphosphines and vinylphosphines are prepared by reaction of a phosphine with an allylhalide or a vinylhalide, respectively. Preferably the phosphine is a secondary phosphine, so that there is formed an allyldialkylphosphine or a dialkylvinylphosphine. The allyldialkylphosphine can be reacted further with dialkylphosphine under free radical conditions to yield a 1,3-bis-(dialkylphosphino)propane The dialkylvinylphosphine can be reacted further with dialkylphosphine under free radical conditions to yield a 1,2-bis-(dialkylphosphino)ethane. These compounds are useful as bidentate ligands.
